Speed sensor problems - still!
Put this on the USA technical site as well.....
Getting really fed up with this. Did a box swap about 8 weeks ago, since then the speedo hasn't worked. Problem: Gearbox taken out of car has a separate plug in speed sensor. Gearbox put in car is a later version with speed sensor integral in the box. The wiring loom is different on the new gearbox. From this site I got wiring diagrams that showed both gearbox set-ups and it seemed a pretty simple job to take the signal wire from the 'new' gearbox and link to the loom on the car that had the plug in sensor. We have a pulse from the gearbox sensor, but when connected to the car wiring loom, the speedo still isn't driving! Are there differences between earlier and later speedo heads or speed sensors? Presumably you are fitting the trans to your Silver-Grey Alcyone?
IIRC your speedo is calibrated to 180 MPH rather than it's original JDM calibration of 180 km/h. This means that somebody has fitted a pulse converter chip between the speed sensor and the speedo. I would suggest trying to find this chip and removing it temporarily as it may be causing the problem. You said that you definitely have a pulse coming out of the transmission. Presumably you managed to verify this with a multimeter or scope. Try testing the wire at the back of the speedo in the same way to see if the pulse gets that far or disappears somewhere in between.
