Hood Strut Removal?????

Just wondering how do I go about removing the hood strut from the ball? It seems really pressed in there. I do not want to force the ball portion to much just in case I break or bend something. The ball is screwed on the inner side of the hodd, and I would hate to see that get damaged. Please help! Thanks.

P.S. I am going to modify and use some other strut that is the same lenght from another car. Paying at the dealer or on line prices< I think is a bit high.

Unscrew it from the hood, then (what I did) was I had to take a hack saw in a vice and cut the old strut until the ball part was freed. Some say to hammer, it but never seems to work!

Don't cut it until all else fails. I have explained how to do this for some others and it worked ok for them.

Put the old ball (threaded part) in a vice and tap the strut with a hammer until it comes off. When you have the new strut, hold the threaded part with a cloth to protect the threads and tap the socket part of the strut with a hammer. There is a little more of the instructions that I gqve Seasvx. He tried it and it worked just like I said. You can search for that thread. If you have more questions, let me know. They have all worked that way for me anyway.

Thanks

Thanks for all your help. I am going to to try it. I am going to order a passenger side strut. I discovered it is the one that failed. At least the other one is still strong.
