Doesn't Always Start

Hi,

I have an old Subaru SVX. 1994. It doesn't always start. I turn the key and sometimes nothing happens, other times it starts.
When it doesn't start there is no sound, nothing, no cranking. I tried shifting into neutral. Same thing, sometimes yes, sometimes no. There is an electrical bug in there somewhere. I just don't know where to look.
Any idea?

Sounds like the old starter relay issue.

Try turning the key back and forth quickly if you need to drive it before you can repair it.

As for repairing it you can replace the suspect part or try the starter relay mod.

Thank you. Looks like someone has already been under there and replaced the relay with the wrong one. The Bosch part is not available locally. I will order the right part and hope.

I got and installed the Bosch Relay. No change. Sometimes it starts, others it does not. The problem seems to go further.

Test start by placing the car in park, then jumper the starter solenoid directly to the + on the battery. Also try with the car in neutral (and the emergency on).

If it works all the time then do the "Clickty click starter fix".
