Just got her painted - pics enclosed

Hey everyone, just got my 96 back from Maaco. I did a much-dreaded color change and ended up being really happy with it. This color is Subaru's Urban Grey Metallic. I had em put in the 97 grill along with the work, as well as fill the front plate mount holes. Let me know what you guys think of the color. I'm so used to seeing green that I can't believe its my car.

I like the color but who put that rear wheel skirt molding back on? I gotta get me a hammer to do it like that!

Obviously that wasn't the standard macco $199 ambassator job but you're not showing the important stuff like your door jambs, the inside of the trunk or under the hood.

How much ya spend on it?

No doubt on the molding. I figured that wouldn't slip by without a comment. I'll fix it when I do the Koni work here soon. They did great on the trunk, jams and sunroof. I paid extra for R&I on the sunroof molding, trunk lid removal, rear spoiler removal, floor jams, and inside doors. Believe it or not its the $499 paint job, but I ended up at $1200 due to the labor stuff. I'm happy for what I spent.

I was trying to avoid a color that screamed "I just had my SVX painted" (its ok if I scream that but not the car The Urban Grey paint chip on the 2007 Impreza brochure looks darker but I figured out it depends on the light. This color has such a heavy metallic that it will go almost lighter grey in direct sun, then dark grey in non direct light.

Looks Great. Richer that the original silvers I think.

GreenMarineSVX, have a look at "Lunar Grey" on the '06 Jaguars. It's a colour I've been toying with.

Does look like you got a good paint job for the price. I hope it holds up good for ya as from my understanding they use fairly cheap paint compared to most of the non-chain shops. I'd definately park it inside as much as possible where your at to aid in the life of it w/o a clear on there but as you said, you're happy and IMO that's all that matters.

Still wanna see how they did on the door jams etc. if you get the photo itch again.

Regarding the paint quality question, its Sherwin Williams. Comes with a warranty, I have to check how long. The thing about the single stage is they say not to buff it as the buffing will get down into the metallic and darken it.

Yeah, Sherwin Williams isn't the best quality of auto paints from what I've read, of course if well cared for and applied properly that shouldn't be an issue. Yeah, you definately don't want to buff it.

looks great!! I really like it... A little off topic but... I noticed you have an OBDII 5mt and have a few questions. Did you have any issues with the swap or was it as simple as an OBDI swap??

Really looks fantastic. How about posting a pic of the under hood and door jams ? I was thinking of a color change myself but was concerned about the jams, trunk area and under hood. The car truly looks sharp with the wheels.

Tom,
Related to the 5MT tranny and OBDII question, I've gotten lazy and haven't solved the check eng light. Thanks for asking. The code has to do with the TCU no longer being present. I was freaked out about smog check, but it went fine. Lucky for me the CE light doesn't come back on for a couple days until after reset The local smog test guys also didn't seem to care that it had a 5MT vs an auto. Oddly their computer had manual as a selectable option. Looks like you've pimped your ride pretty nicely. Now if I can just get the rattles out of the doors when the stereo is turned up I'll be really happy.

Here's a thought.

Is it possible to set up a permanent thread or area on the site to post pictures of SVX's with non OEM paint?
