a/c squeal

My a/c has been squealing when I first turn it on, it doesn’t do it every time (at least it didn’t when I brought it to the shop) but it does most times. After a few minutes it will quiet down and work fine, but the initial noise is quite loud. I just got a new transmission and tranny cooler, and it looks like I’ll be getting a new battery tomorrow, since mine suddenly died. This isn’t my month. Any ideas on what the squeal could be?

Possibly the A/C clutch seizing up or the belt is worn/loose.

Turned out to be my crankshaft pulley. It had split in two, yet the parts didn't move out of place. Went on a 300mi trip without any problems (aside from the a/c noise and some noise on sharp turns when cold). Go figure.
