Sweet...this should fit almost prefectly, then.

I'm on the run right now, but there are more pics up in the Six Speed/Saint Louis folder in my personal locker. Right now I'm waiting for new CV axles, and I think I will do all of this stuff in my own garage after all. More later.

2 questions

1. is this a Jap spec 6-speed or the one in the US spec WRX STi?

2. What axels are you using on the front? original SVX ones fit?

I'd guess that since the US spec STI is only here for Magazine reviews so far that it is a Japanese spec tranny.

SVX Driver,

I agree with what you put in your signature block about the military. Thanks.
Also, we need another Bob Hope or someone like him to bring shows to our troops around the world on the holidays.

yay good weather

For some reason good weather came to Minnesota (it's 10:30 PM and 77 degree F outside!), so I've been able to work on the project a bit. The old transmission is out and the new flywheel and clutch are in. There were no fitment problems whatsoever with those items. However, I noticed that there is a threaded bolt on the old tranny that held the bottom part of the starter on, and it is not there on the new transmission. I'd tap the hole myself, but I'm afraid abbout getting it lined up right, so I'm going to have to get a machine shop in the area thread the hole in the tanny so the starter can properly mount. I guess.

Pics are in my personal locker in the Six Speed/Saint Louis foler, then 4/12/03.

Good luck with that 6 spd. I'm sure almost everyone here is watching and waiting to see your results!

If I wasn't going to be in a hurry tomorrow I would have stopped by to say hi and take a look at your project. Unfortunately Minneapolis is not on my way between Duluth and Winnipeg.

I get off WORK at noon... don't nobody start thinking THAT way. I wouldn't have the SVX... but we're all still members and owners, right? That's the important part, right?

Hey. Question. Would members from the Minnesota/WI area be willing to come up and help wrench on Alex's SVX? I know I'd be up for helping Alex, if you'd want any. This project is REALLY exciting.

Thats wierd about the starter hole. Must bolt thru to the motor on the new cars. I was wondering what is that tranny out of, a euro WRX? STI? Wagon? I like the idea of the higher ratios. Seems the JDM STI is geared to top out around 125mph.

Chicane, thanks for the offer

Unfortunately most of the work is just figuring out what needs to be done and then waiting for things to fall into place. Waiting for parts to ship is the worst! I hope to get everything together soon, of course.

From what I know, the tranny is out of a euro WRX STi. I know that everything is going to work in the next couple of weeks, it's just a matter of time (and money!)

I'll keep everyone posted.

6 speed wont work

I hate to burst your bubble, but the new 6 speed does not bolt up to the old engines, unless you have a special mounting plate designed and installed. The bolt patterns are different. You could use a WRX STi version from 98 or 99, or better yet, use an old used RS tranny and beef it up with something other than sh**ty Chalak gears, like quaife. Check the impreza sites related to Chalak. They are worse than stock. Quaife's are expensive and I don't know anyone who uses them. Then if you want to get really slick, do quaifes in the front and rear.
