Cool

i am not trying to make excuses for not stopping, but i just don't want to stop right now, but i will soon want to...so if you would like to send me the info, i will read it over, thanks very much for the offer.

If you don't want to stop (a word I prefer to "quit"), don't.

There's no magic info, Kelli, just a few suggestions that MIGHT help you forget about waving that smoldering paper thing about, even when your friends continue to do so. Believe it or not, I LIKE the smell of tobacco smoke, & have no problem with anyone who torches up in my presence.

Step 1. If you decide to STOP - DO NOT tell any of your friends.
More later - but YOU must make the "stop" decision, no one else.

Ron.

i would be interested in the suggestions that MIGHT help me forget about waving that smoldering paper thing about......that is what i said in the first place. even though i am not interested in "quiting" at any certain time, i am interested in stopping eventually, so any information that you would like to pass on, i would be interested in the info. and why would me telling my friends that i am going to quit a problem?

I'd have to disagree on the dangerous part. Plain old marijuana is reasonably safe in a healthy person, though inhaling unfiltered smoke is rather bad long-term. If you're prone to anxiety, asthma or heart probs, then pot can probably trigger them.

What I think is dangerous is trying to do things while high that require concentration or judgment. And it's hard to say how long impairment lasts. Also, there's a risk that the marijuana is laced with something like formaldehyde.

I don't think marijuana is particularly bad, but I find people who are on it really irritating.

No smoke without smelly clothes

I don't smoke, neither does Ann, and we dread any committed smoker asking to smoke in our house. It takes about two days to get rid of the smell on curtains, carpets etc.

In Ireland, there are designated smoking areas allowed in restaurants, these laws ignore the laws of molecular dispersion in a closed environment. To me, it is the same as the law allowing a peeing area in your neighbourhood swimming pool. As you can gather, I am not in favour of anyone lighting up near me in an eating establishment. Drink and food yes, smoke and food no.

However, they are debating changing the law here to forbid smoking in pubs, particularly those that serve food[most of them]. I am against this, and will fight with the smokers to prevent it, even though I don't smoke, have a medically verified allergy to cigarette smoke, and suffer seriously with sinus after a night in the pub. People should be allowed to indulge their habits on a night out, within reason. I would include hash in this, though I have never smoked it. Having studied pharmacology as part of my chemistry studies, marijuana to me appears probably less harmful than tobacco.

I would fully agree with ivtemt on the hash smokers paradigm though. As a relaxing and destressing drug, you could make a strong case for making it available to "driven" people, those with high stress lifestyles. Yet you find the habitual users are the ones with no ambition, totally laid back and feckless, so far out they are in your face.

Life is shore funny

Joe

Waiting to finish reading all the posts before replying to the quoted post above, I discovered that Dick, as usual (), agrees with my thinking but beat me to the punch (again). I would only add my distaste for such ignorant and biased studies. Truth is that people who tend to lean towards narcotics have addictive personalities in the first place and will naturally tend to progressively move towards stronger narcotics over time, regardless of which drug they started with. I am fortunate to not have an addictive nature but know many who do. But for a study that links marijuana as a "gateway" drug to harder narcotics is like saying that cigarette smoking will lead to cancer. This is not the case. There are many people who have smoked 2 or 3 packs a day of unfiltered cigarettes and die at a ripe old age of natural causes, not cancer. If cigarette smoke caused cancer then anyone who smokes regularly WILL get cancer. It is merely a trigger for cancer on people who's genetic makeup makes them carriers of the cancer gene. I believe that if you are genetically cancer prone then you will probably end up with cancer one way or another. If you are not genetically cancer prone then you will not get cancer no matter how many cigarettes you smoke during your life.

I find cigarette smoke to be very offensive but I do, however, find cigar & pipe smoke to be very pleasurable. To me the difference between the two is like comparing the smell of vomit to the smell of a hyacinth flower. They are both tobacco but cigarettes are made of the worse leaf scraps and are laced with many additives and chemicals. I realise that it is a personal taste and that there are many that would disagree with my opinion as well as many who would agree.

I have no use for drugs although I did give into curiosity once and tried marijuana. All I got from it was a raw throat and no buzz whatsoever. I found out that my brothers are the same way and it never effected them either. Perhaps that's why I never cared to experiment any further. That said, my feelings on drug use is that they should be legalised and regulated just like tobacco and alcohol. It would end the dark side of drugs almost overnight. Just look at the gangland killings and other problems that existed in alcohol trade during the prohibition days. There is no difference that and the grug trade of today.

While it's an interesting discussion on legalizing marijuana for the most of you, it's close to reality for us in the great white north.

The potheads in the Canadian Parliment are in the process of decriminalizing marijuana. Possession of 30g or less would result in no criminal charges, but something more similar to a parking ticket.

Watch for the friendly drug pusher holding to 29g of marijuana arriving to a neighbourhood school yard near us...

And yet, in the City of Toronto, smoking is banned in all restaurants now, and for pubs within the next couple of years.

So, for all of you fearing the law, com'on up. Just leave your gun at home... At least those are still controlled...

Recently I learned that alcohol became popular 100's of years ago because it helped people sleep at night. This story is from back in the dark ages. Most people had really bad dreams at night and could not sleep and alcohol solved the problem for them. Well at least this is what happen in Ireland as the story goes. St. Patrick was the only one to sleep at night and didn't drink. The other people noticed this. Well any way, it is reason why people started to drink.

I agree that pot can be a dangerous drug for some people. I also agree that alcohol can be a dangerous drug for some people. I also think that just about anything can be addictive if it sarts to control a persons life, if a person needs to it to overcome some sort of problem. That is my opinon on addiction. The person can use anything to overcome some sort of emotional problem. They use the substance to replace the emotion. It can be tobacco, achohol, pot, coke or even food, sex and

an occasional SVX.

Given those choices I would stick with the SVX.

Victor,

We too went 'smokeless' in bars and restuarants in Delaware at the end of Nov.
