Angry Serious bad luck. Need HELP!

Had my house burgled Friday last, door broken, small amount of money taken, a lot of large pieces of crystal and some jewellery. Could have been a lot worse. But the bad luck continues......

My car is currently in the shop having the tranny refurbished. Rang the transmission specialist yesterday [Monday] to enquire if he had my SVX ready. He said he would have had, except that his workshop was broken into and robbed. They stole all the best of his tools, about £3000 worh of Snap-On gear, his diagnostic computer for electronic transmissions, [another £3000 worth], a Mercedes 300E which they used to haul away the stuff, and last but not least, my SVX gearbox!!!

Of course, in loading the haul into the Merc, they used my bootlid[trunk] as a handy platform for the metal boxes. And the black paint is scored right down to the white plastic!

I am not sure if I am mad or disappointed or something in between. To my knowledge, there are only three SVXs in the whole of Ireland. What they are going to do with my tranny is beyond knowing.

I will have to claim the value of the tranny from the garage insurance, and I would appreciate your help here. Could you guys give me an indication of what a replacement tranny costs with no trade-in? Much appreciated if you can.

Joe

That's awful. Why people steal things they can't use is beyond me.

www.subaruparts.com lists a complete transmission for a '92 AWD for $4627.37 USD and for a '97 for $4288.28 USD. Shipping isn't included. You might poke around their website.

People on this forum have mentioned the Subaru-remanufactured '92 AWD transmission for about $2500 USD, but I don't know how accurate that is or if it's after the core charge.

I hope everything gets taken care of to your satisfaction, though people who've had this experience tell me it's never quite the same afterwards.

Please remember, the RHD SVX's use a different gearbox from the US models.

Thanks guys

Both for the kind thoughts and the information.

$2500 is the figure I had in mind, but the site figure is useful also. As it will be going through insurance, they have to use the replacement value.

The nearest available source for trannies to me is the UK, and I hope some of my pals there can get me a current quote. Judging by the humonguous prices I recently paid for a rear wheel bearing and a water pump, I can see the English figure being £4000 to £5000 Sterling, fairly serious money.

I am not interested in stinging anybody, insurance companies included, but I do not intend being out of pocket for it either.

Joe

Re: Thanks guys

Joe,

Sorry for the TERRIBLE turn of events. Glad everyone is OK. You and the family must feel very violated right now . I'm sorry to hear that someone I know was personally touched by this sort of thing.

Thanks Todd, appreciated. Most things taken from the house were presents from people we cherish, and so money will not really replace them.

However, Helen might have arrived home when they were in the house, and been attacked. So we are glad that no one is hurt, except for the invasion of privacy. We'll live.

Rob, real sorry to hear about your dog. Lost a few down through the years, and car or property damage does not really compare.

Joe

Significant Technical Input
I'm terribly sorry to hear of your misfortune, but like everyone else glad to hear nobody was hurt.

There's a lot of frustration and anger involved with such an affair, let alone having it happen twice. Try to temper your feelings with the fact that you still have what's most important to you. Hopefully it will all work out well.

Thank you

Thanks guys

Really appreciate the kind thoughts. I do genuinely hope my car will be in better shape, and I was lucky that I bought a spare box last time around, otherwise I would be up that S Creek with no paddle.

The true bright side of all of this, no one was hurt, Helen is OK. The thieving scum will get theirs, maybe not in a terrestrial court, but their time's a comin'.

Joe

Hearing about the scratches on the boot, make me feel ill. They just as well be on your body, because when you see them, you hurt like they were. Best to you and your family and I can't say much more than what has already been said. Good luck, and I hope your SVX is up and running in a very short time.

You know, the rarity of the SVX in Ireland just may help you - or might help the police find the culprits.

In any case, I'm glad that you and the family are alright. I know how violated I've felt when my space has been invaded by somebody else, and in such a malicious way.

Good luck, Joe.
