Painting with water-borne paints

Found this great, well-written article on water-borne paints, quickly becoming the standard for OEM manufacturers

Lots of history, explanations, comparisons, pros and cons and solid painting advice if you're thinking about getting your car painted.

Better coverage with more pigment. You can realistically repaint a black car with one coat of dark gray primer, one coat of black base and two coats of regular solvent-based clear.

Will definite save this for future reference. This is what my dealer used to repair my wife's Outback and the results were outstanding.

Re: Painting with water-borne paints

I remember using water-borne primer years ago when I worked at a
bumper cover refurbishing shop. (when I was laid-off from the big B)
I was impressed with the coverage.

Re: Painting with water-borne paints

My SVX was painted a little over two years ago with water-borne paint. I'm really happy with the result.

Re: Painting with water-borne paints

After a friend showed me how his water-based paint job turned out versus the solvent-based portion on his RS (both halves done at a Lexus dealership in Dallas), I've been convinced this is the way I want to go next time.. I also want to put diamond clear across the whole front half and spoiler.
