I don' think you could race it. It is a vintage race for old cars. Though I will say you would most likely kick their ass if you did.

It'll be a quarter of a Century old later this year, which will make it an antique

WOW!
I wonder how old it would be if it were made in 1965!

Re: Subaru of America invites vintage Subies to Pittsburgh race

I will definitely be doing this, and had already planned in partaking in the festivities associated with the Vintage as I have on and off for over a decade.

Interesting tidbit; a former svx owner and network member has been involved in the general organization of the event for years. Subaru has always been a sponsor of the event, and in 2004 (I think), I was invited to display my SVX with Subaru's "setup." However, I wasn't able to follow through with it that year -- something I've always regretted.

That's more an artifact of how road racing developed in the US than anything else. Road racing started growing in the US just after WWII. Japanese carmakers didn't start participating in racing in the US until the mid to late 1960's. To prove my point: there is a 1968 Datsun 510 listed in the under 2.5L class, and another 510 and two 240Z's listed in the over 2.5L class.

Aside: I went through a BMW 2002 and a Ford Cortina GT, back when they were just used cars rather than "vintage" cars. I craved a Datsun 510 to replace the Cortina, but couldn't find one I could afford. There weren't many 510s to be found on the east coast back then, and the folks who had them, kept them.
