Door speakers

So my door speakers must have finally blown. Can some one recommend a speaker that they have used and that is still current. In general I do not crank up the music too loud, so I just need something that is cheap but not junk and that fits well. I have a 2004 WRX head unit but no amplifiers or subs if that matters.

Re: Door speakers

A couple of weeks ago I bought some Infinity Reference 6.5 inch for my Legacy. When I listen to various speakers in the shop I always like the sound of the Infinity ones the best. Although the 6x9 inch sound a lot better than the 6.5's IMHO (but won't fit in the doors).

The problem you will have, whichever speakers you buy, is making some kind of adapter so they will fit into the SVX door. I can't understand why Subaru don't design their doors to take standard speaker sizes.

I was reading up on it, I plan to drill out and reuse the stock mounts. How do these look?

or these?

Re: Door speakers

I'm sure either of those will sound absolutely fantastic compared to the stock speakers.

Re: Door speakers

I recently replaced all the speakers in my car, though to be honest I only needed to replace the dash tweeters I didnt realize it when I bought my speakers though.
The tweeters were stock the doors were infinity kappa's and the rears were boston.

I put mb quart component's in the doors, with the tweeter in the dash, I really dislike 6.5's that have built in tweeters I just dont think the sound is right.
and then put alpine 6x9's in even with no amp they sound really good. I found that the previous owner did not use an adapter plate the infinity's seem very slim profile I found that the window at the bottom seems to touch the rear of the speaker but not to the point its affecting anything.

Are the tweeter difficult to replace? I am probably not going to do the rear ones unless they start sounding blown.

Re: Door speakers

The MB Quart or the Infinity will all be 1000% better than the stock paper cone OEM crap that is in the door now.

When it comes to picking a speakers, keep the tweeter in mind.
Silk dome tweeters have softer highs, titanium/metal are brighter, but tinnier. Go turn on a set in a store and see which you prefer for your choice of music listening.

I have Infinity kappa 6.5 with silk dome tweeters, I like it.
My friend has the MB Quart in his cobalt, his highs are ear bleeding to me in comparison.

I really like the MB Quart, they are louder than my infinity, but I think the infinity are better at replicating music more truly.
His highs have the metal tin like sound even when no metal is being played. So listening to acoustic stuff or strings just sound slightly off to me.
He doesn't even notice.. So its really a personal thing I guess.
That is why I suggest going to listen to some before ordering a pair off the web.

Re: Door speakers

I replaced my speakers (door and rear) with Sony Xplod speakers. They sound great with the factory system!
