AAA Premium Towing

Has anyone ever used AAA premium towing to get your SVX somewhere specific. I am wondering if they will have some resistance to taking it where I want which will be pretty far. What I was thinking was driving about halfway then calling for roadside assistance to take it the rest of the way which would be about 75 miles further.
I was also wondering if I have a car following me will they take it the rest of the way without me?

For someone that has used there towing what can I expect?

Re: AAA Premium Towing

The rules vary by the local office, but my AAA premium gives up to 100 miles free, after that I think it's $3.00 mile. They have no problem taking my car someplace without me as long as you can give them good directions.

Do you already have premium? Most offices have a 30 day or more waiting period before you get the extended tows.

Re: AAA Premium Towing

You might save time by driving the car the other 75 miles, depending on the wait.

Re: AAA Premium Towing

I'ved used their services more than a few times, my waits have been as short as 15 minutes. Probably an average of 20-25. The longest was just over an hour on a day with about 8" of snow.

Re: AAA Premium Towing

My current AAA mid Atlantic Premier membership gives me 200 miles of free towing to any destination of my choice. My former Plus membership gave me only 100 miles of free towing. The premium difference is only $23.00/ year.

If you upgrade from Plus to Premier, there is a 7 day waiting period to use the new benefits.

At the time the tranny was going out on my son's pearlie, I was going to take it to OT (125 miles away). I had the 100 mile towing Plus Package. I knew it would never make entire the trip on its own, but it only had to make it 25 miles until I called AAA

It actually made it about 85 miles before it died and then I called AAA.

I have also used them for my Polo a couple of times. Never any problems with AAA towing. Their only stipulation on towing is that it has to be dropped off at a bonafide address (repair shop, residence, etc.) They will not just drop it off in a parking lot, etc.

Membership types and restrictions can be found HERE

Re: AAA Premium Towing

I had AAA for a while. I used the 'lock out' one time but when I needed a tow, it added an hour to the wait time, since they had to call the guy that I would have called anyway.
I don't travel much anymore, so I just got towing added to my insurance. I pay it, they send me a check.

Thank God, I've only had to use towing 2 times.

More than a few times a year right? As Dave said, each AAA is different with their rules and bylaws. I do know that quite a few Central PA AAA members were not renewed by AAA this past year because they "used the services". I guess they were considered too much of a risk. Dave doesn't have that issue where he is at.

I fall into that category. I have had Central PA AAA for about 10 years. They sent me a letter last year saying that I was no longer welcome because I used it too much.

Hehaw. Who do you have your Cav insured with? If you can talk Haggerty into it I think they have a policy which will cover all of your vehicles for towing for $50 or so a year up to 100 miles. Of course I wouldn't know since I drive British cars so I don't have much need for such coverage.

I don't have the cav on insurance anymore. I rarely drive it, and when I do, I just use a dealer plate.

I think the SL is what did me in on the AAA. I had to have it towed 3 times in one week once.

Re: AAA Premium Towing

Before I worked at my current job, I actually drove a tow truck for about 3.5 years. It was a really good time, actually.

We were an AAA affiliate, and I was always very impressed with how well AAA took care of their customers.

I, infact, just used my girlfriends AAA last saturday to have the SVX towed home after the tranny started making horrible noises. I had to wait about an hour and a half, but that really didn't bother me.

I now recommend AAA to everyone that asks.
