RTV Sealant Recommendations

Hey guys,

Was thinking the other day about the black RTV sealant used on the SVX headlights, taillights and corners. Do you think one can find a similar quality RTV on the market? (can be heated and re-used?)

Please do not mention Permatex... lol

Re: RTV Sealant Recommendations

Not sure about the reuseable sealant but thought I would throw this out there as probably one of my favorite sealants of all time.

3M™ Marine Adhesive/Sealant 5200

comes in black or white, there is a 5400 as well but I think it dries harder than typical RTV. This stuff does not come off the hands easy. Most silicone or RTV products if you read the labels say something to the effect: water resistant (indicating NOT water proof) also some will say may corrode some metals. Not this stuff.

I used to use it for emergency wiring harnesses in a pinch. A trick I discovered is you can spray your finger with carb cleaner and then as long as your finger is wet you can mold it for a smooth finish.

Sorry SilverSpear it probably isn't what you were looking for.

Re: RTV Sealant Recommendations

Thanks for the suggestion man. I am looking for that black silicone that is used in headlights though. No luck so far.

I am not sure what kind of adhesive is used but you may have to purchase small amounts of different types and do testing

You could try something like this stuff..(has alot of product info in the link that might help you decide if it will work or not)
3M™ Scotch-Weld™
Structural Plastic Adhesive
DP-8005 Translucent • DP-8005 Black
