Transmission or torque convertor??

Greetings,
I have some problems with my automatic transmission I am trying to pinpoint the cause of:
1. When stopping the car acts similar to the clutch still being engaged (manual transmission analogy). Just before the engine stalls it releases and idles.
2. While at 70 mph with cruise control on the RPM ranges from 2200 when outside temp is about 80 to as high as 2700 when outside temp is 100. Yes it gets hot in Houston.
3. When cruise control is on the car falters for a fraction of a second repeatedly, more often when under load like going over an overpass. Yes it is flat in Houston. I thought it was spark plug mis-firing until I noticed the other issues.
4. It has a very hard shift into 2nd gear, other gears are smooth, maybe shifting at little lower RPM than I would want.
The car has a 4.44 swap with about 120k on the transmission. I used the original Outback torque convertor when I did the swap as the SVX when I got had a bad transmission. I wasn't sure of the condition of the original torque convertor.
Thanks for your input.
Keith

Re: Transmission or torque convertor??

A possible answer to question 3. Using Tom's suggestion, I held the car at 70 without the cruise control on and didn't feel the falter or stumble. Turned it on and felt it again
Feel free to provide your thoughts on the others.

1. What trans fluid brand did you use?
LAN reccommends only Subaru ATF.
I would drain and fill the ATF and eplace it with BG Products synthetic ATF.
This is just a shot in the dark, mind you.
Also there is a "Lube Guard" t5hat you can add as a friction modifier sold at The Auto Zone. Either the silver or the red bottle is ok.

2. Can you find out your trans temps?
Can you install a temp guage?

3. The pulsing is more noticable because of the steeper gears.

4. It is fine to use the OB torque converter in a OB transmission.
The SVX one would be preferred, unless the TQ was contaminated.
