Re: What kind of transmission cooler should I get?

You might want to check your fluid level and make sure it isn't a little high. You really shouldn't be getting up into the 200's. I know Jon has a pwr radiator and uses it's atf cooler with one of my transmissions and I think they said it was running in the 160's.

Unlike my previous setup, it now doesn't seem to continue down below the 180-190 range once it gets there.
With the 2 separate coolers and radiator heater bypassed it would cool back down below that.

But I haven't done any long highway runs yet to see if continued driving in hot weather would cool it down more.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check it today. It's so hard to get a good reading.

What are your recommendations as for what is best??
I just instaled a Hayden/Imperial #242016 in a members pristine 53,000 mile, absolutely stock SVX.
Before I installed his cooler I went on a road testup a mountain, about an 8° incline on a 53°f day cruising at 55-65 mph.
The peak temp was 207°f, and averaged 188-190°f.
After removing the stock in radiator cooler and installing the Imperial, the peak was 194°f, with the average being about 169°f.
Buy the way,IT WAS 76-77°F outside.
So, 23-24 ° hotter, and the trans was 13° cooler!
The temp dropped to the "normal" 169° much quicker as well.

I put the cooler between the AC condencer and the rad.
The cooler size is 3/4" thick, 7,1/2" high, 15,7/8" long, with a core length of 12,1/8".
