Powder coated goodness! teaser pics

Here are a few teaser caliper pics from Harry's SVX; I just got them back from the powder coater. The pics are a bit dark as I didn't use a flash and the kitchen is dark. I'll be doing the assembly work this weekend and will document the rebuild procedure for a DIY. The next time I do a set, I will take pics during disassembly to complete the DIY.

Anyway, here they are (minus the hardware and all moving parts).

Re: Powder coated goodness! teaser pics

mmm...goodness. Do you have to scrape the powder coating out of the slides/cylinder bores?

Re: Powder coated goodness! teaser pics

No scraping necessary - The powder coater plugs all of the threaded holes and the caliper bores. Sometimes he get a bit of powder leakage, but it's thin and pretty easy to remove.

Ah, makes sense. I guess the angle of the pictures just made it look like the bores had been coated.

Re: Powder coated goodness! teaser pics

did you check the depth of the threads on the bracket for the bolt that locks the caliper in at the bottom (it's the one that only needs ~25 ft-lbs of torque)? I found that the PO of my Pearlie had helicoiled the hole, which, of course, came out while I was re-doing the brakes. OT sent me another bracket which ended up having a similar problem (no helicoil, just only had 3 threads of engagement) and then YT sent me a bracket that did the trick.

Re: Powder coated goodness! teaser pics

Bill,
Good point. Could you reply back with the specs on the tightening of the bolts - I want to be sure I install them correctly. Most I have pulled off seem like they were over 25 lbs when installed......

Thanks,
Harry

Just think Harry, at Reading we could cook a set in my garage for you're beauty.

Oh wait, you got more important things to do. You will be missed.

I think you said before that you were going to write up a How-To on this with pictures of installing the parts. That would be great for rebuilding them if nothing else. I would like to rebuild my calipers myself when they get messed up. Thanks ahead of time.

PS Part numbers would be great too.

Re: Powder coated goodness! teaser pics

Further teasers!
Front Calipers are finished!
DIY is in process - a proper DIY takes about 4X - 5X as long as the actual job itself.

First, the pretty pistons with the rust inhibiting coating on the inner bores

New piston sealing rings on their way home

Piston and boot on their way home

New brake bleeder goodness (wearing a proper hat)

The finished beuty
