Warning lights

Hi Yawl,
Can anyone tell me what is the problem, I have the power steering, battery
and stop lamp warning lights come up on the dash simultaniously, the
battery is not charging, the alternator belt is new and tensioned properly,I
have checked the fuses, all ok,is it the alt or is there something else i'm
missing, Why the three warning lights?

Re: Warning lights

If the battery is not charging, have the alternator checked. How old is the battery? Anything over 4 years and it may need replacing. If you are mechanically inclined, alternator failures are usually just the brushes, a very cheap fix.
Once you have the charging problem solved then see if all the warning lights go off. If not more trouble shooting wll be necessary.

This happened to me just recently. It was the alternator.

Re: Warning lights

Yes it's a new battery this year,I was just puzzled why the three warning lights, wondered if there could be something like a regulator playing up.

It is RETURDS (yes i spelt that correctly!) like you making crass comments
that put people off using forums like SVX World. The whole idea of the
technical column is to ask questions and get reasonable answers, not have
TW*ts like you come back with ****e!
You're probably one of those people that answer anybody's question just to
get your name up on the screen,
Do you even own a SVX? If you do I'll be surprised
I will get on with life, Mabe you should get one

Nice comments... nice nickname!

However, not sure about the meaning of your word "Mabe".

If you like surprises, maybe I can make your day! I don't own "A" SVX. I actually own 2 SVXs. My visors are perfect. my headlight lenses are clear as a bell.

Hopefully by now your Christmas tree lights are back on and you can get your new alternator and get on with your life... whatever Universe you are actually in.

As Trevor used to say... Cheers!

Maybe you should go back and re-read the rules here before calling names and disrespecting long time members who have cause no problems in the past.

I saw nothing insulting or disrespectful with his initial comment, perhaps your interpretation is what was off. This is plain text on a plain background, after all.

Either way, you have broken rule #1.

Maybe, but I would suggest the alternator is bad. If you replace it, the problem should be fixed, and you can go on with life.

Re: Warning lights

We have shops over here that will rebuild an alternator for a reasonable price. Possibly, you do also? The result is as good as a new one.

I agree with this guys approach...I would rather have my old one fixed then some "rebuild" out of a box at a crappy autoparts store (or for that matter pony up the money on a new subaru unit)
