Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
Well it has become somewhat of an obsession.
I got my hands on a 97 LSI a couple years ago and have been in the process of a subaru update so to speak. The car had 117k on the clock and needed some love so i made an atempt to zero time everything but the engine block. New OEM Subaru 18 inch wheels From an 08 Tribeca. New slotted and dimpled rotors with ceramic pads and SS brake lines from a member on this forum. A just installed OEM Subaru Mcintosh sound system with new Mcintosh component speakers to replace the existing stock speakers, not old speakers out of a legacy but new old stock from Mcintosh to replace the 6x9 and the door and the dash speakers-these are unavailable and dont even exist anymore. New Radiator, pwr steering pump, water pump, external tranny cooler,condenser-receiver dryer, wheel bearings, new STEBRO exhaust system. And a few other nick nacks. Please let me know what you think of the finished product by visiting my album. http://picasaweb..com/shimmersky/SUBARUSVX Best Regards to all shimmersky Last edited by shimmersky; 08-26-2008 at 01:46 PM. |

Re: Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
Also could the community at large please post what they think this car might be worth on the open market???
Do the OEM upgrades give it any more or less value ????? Do the diehard collectors just want to see low mileage stock cars???? |

Re: Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
Also thanks to David Carter who provided all the wiring harness/connectors for the sound system install.
Everything worked as advertised and he was a great help in figuring out what i needed. Also a shout out to Tom SVX who helped me fix a driveshaft issue i was having sometime ago. This is such a great community to help keep these amazing cars on the road!!! |

Looks great, tint is too dark, but need it in Nevada. I have 96 Polo, and love the color. Good Luck with it.

Re: Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
Geoff,
First off, excellent choice for the McIntosh System. I have been eyeing up a similar setup for my Claret for over a year now, but other plans have prevented me moving with it. Are you happy with it overall? Did you use a harness to wire it in? Did you run new speaker wire? Also, you can notch the black trim on the backside of the stereo door and it will accommodate the two large knobs on this head unit. I ran into a similar issue with my 2004 WRX stereo in my Claret. In my opinion, I would go with a different shade of window film, particularly for the fact that I do not like that "purple" look to many types of films that I see on cars. I would also seek out an additional set of tan dash tweeter covers in order to help seek a more inconspicuous install of those rear tweeters. Other than that, it looks great!

Re: Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
Thanks
The system was professionally installed here in Las Vegas and the installer said the backside of the headunit door cover had to go. I looked everywhere for tan/beige covers for the rear tweets but to no avail. All new monster cable all around, and it sounds amazing!!! The window tint has no purple whatsoever, its limo black but maybe the camera angle is to blame. Cant live without it here in Las Vegas with summer temps well over 115F some days. I used a digital thermometer to see what the surface temp was on my front leather seats before i did the tint. Mid day in aug and the seats were 165F oouucchhhh!!!!! |

Re: Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
If a collector was looking for a good one, they would probably want everything stock, but for the average person, it doesn't really matter.

The stereo door trim is often removed when these stereos are fitted, but can be adapted to work with it by making a small modification to said trim. The tan tweeter covers I was referring to are the ones in your dashboard. A set of front tweeter covers used cleverly with a rear installation application might be a nice mod down the road.

I presume the window tint is film, and for me, aesthetically the colour is too dark, and it has that purple or blackberry tone that all tint films seem to have. My brother has a Japanese Forester Turbo, I have a Japanese Mitsubishi RVR. Both have very dark rear glass, what the Japanese call "privacy glass". Both are too dark for me, but at least no purple tint. Tint film does not do it for me, but yours was applied by real experts. I can see no fault at the edges. Excellent job, really good. In answer to your question I would have to agree with Keith. As of yet the SVX does not seem to appeal to collectors, and values of good stock or non-stock cars reflect their age rather than any scarcity. Hold on to your car and enjoy it. Driving it and owning it will give you the best Return On Investment. Nice one! Joe

Re: Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
Very nicely done. I've always loved the quality of McIntosh amps are as my dad used to own one before upgrading to an Adcom home theatre amp (I currently have an Adcom car amp).
Since you're all done with it, I wouldn't worry about the value and just enjoy driving it. You earned it.

Re: Opinions on my Completed 97 LSI Project
It really is beautiful, isn't it Tom?
The Tribeca wheels do a great job, although they are probably a bit heavier than the standard rims and tires. Joe
