Svx Mpg
This may have been covered in another thread - and I realize it may go against why some even have an SVX - but if MPG is important to you, try doing your everyday highway cruising at 60 mph. Even with the 4.44 gearing I get nearly 26 mpg, and that's driving on WV hills. Granted it's mostly highway driving but it does make a difference - with my usual 70-80 mph driving I was lucky to get 21 mpg.

I'm sorry to say with the SVX this is nearly impossible and I can't actually believe that you doing that speed would net you that kind of gas mileage. The typical vehicle loses gas mileage after every 10mph after 65mph. Not every vehicle, but most, ours is one of those vehicles. Driving at that speed would more than likely get you closer to 20mpg than anything else. Driving at 65mph - 72mph can net you in the SVX nearly 28mpg. |

Re: Svx Mpg
I agree as well... I got the best mileage on the highway when I was right between 75-80mpg... Now however with the WRX 5mt in there and the ECUTune stg. 1 ver.5, I get the best mileage between 70 and 75. Simply because the ECU starts to richen things up alot after 3,000rpm. Got the Dyno plots to back that up too ... Still though, I have yet to manage better than 26mpg...

Re: Svx Mpg
I also record freeway mileage in the high 20s with both of my cars; the teal just a tick better than the silver. 27+ @ 70+ is the norm. I log miles elapsed between fill-ups, buy gas at the same station 9 times out of 10, and even use the same pump... not exactly as scientific as graduated beakers and GPS measurements, but pretty accurate.

Re: Svx Mpg
I have maxed out at 35mpg (IMP) both with the 4EAT and the 5MT.
That's 29mpg (US) for you USA'ers. Speeds kept around 75mph.

Re: Svx Mpg
i was happy when i was finally able to achieve 20 mpg...
keeping the air filter clean, driving less aggresively, and a tire alignment helped me out

Re: Svx Mpg
In 2004, I took my stock SVX from Boise, to Las Vegas. I always track my mileage and this time was no different. We were in a convoy of cars separated by roughly 1/2 mile between us. Typically I had to be the lead vehicle. The coated windshiled reduced my radio range to only 1/2 mile in front, but up to 5 miles behind me (no surprise there). There are VERY LONG sections of road in Nevada that just scream for higher cruise speeds. I too found that if I kept the cruise speed at or below 80 miles per hour, I got 28-30 miles per gallon. When I exceeded 80 MPH file economy fell to 25-26 miles per gallon.
The odd thing I have noted over the years in my trips to the Seattle area and up to see Earl in Dabob. Oregon has VERY STIFF fines for speeders and their interstate travel speed limits are painfully slower than surrounding states at just 65 MPH. When I set the cruise for 65, again my fuel economy dips below the 28-30 average I get at slightly higher speeds. I have owned and driven my SVX for over 12 years with 10 of those years without a working fuel gauge. Needless to say until I changed the gears just a few weeks ago to 4.44 ratio, I was very in tune with what my cars fuel economy was doing. I tend to agree that a stock geared SVX has a highway sweet spot in the 70-80 mile per hour range. I have yet to get the low fuel light to come on in the car since I have swapped out to 4.44 ratio. I have already passed a point of driven city miles where the light would have/should have already come on. This is still my first tank of fuel, but it FEELS like the city driving side of fuel economy has increaced with the gear change. This being said, I am sure that the slower MPH driving with 4.44 gears at highways speeds puts the engine in the RPM speet spot for economy lower than that of the 3.54 gears. I will continue to track my results.

Re: Svx Mpg
I have driven to Central South Carolina and only had to fill up once after i crossed into the state. I was traveling mostly 85-90 mph, so i guess you can say i was getting better miles per gallon driving faster.

Re: Svx Mpg
stock tranny avg mpg 28-32 @ 80. wrx sti 24 mpg @ 80 26 mpg @70 27.5 mpg @64 ish so I agree with above stock box sweet spot about 80 oh and I fill up @ the same station, same pump every time, also keep track of mileage (gas gauge does work though) so to say it cannot be done is not entirely true for every vehicle it is and will be different. that is why window stickers have a range that the mpg was from/to for a said vehicle
