I'm not sure about winter, but a good, all wet or dry tire is the potenza, it's worked well for me, but is too racey for the winter.

or at least for colorado winters with 3 feet of snow

Check out Falkens, they are pretty cheap and not a bad tire either. Running them on 2 of rigs right now.

Hi all,
This month's issue of consumer report rates "Ultra High Performance all-season" tires, as well as "summer only" tires. The Continental Extreme Contact rated excellent in snow...quote "the Conti performed as well the dedicated snow tire used for comparison"
Top rated snow tires (not this issue, last years) were a Nitto and Blizzak Rev0.
Last winter in CT, I ran the above Nittos on my daughters car, and Hankook "Ice Bears" on my 92 Black over Silver. The Ice bear seems to be a regular high performance (V-rated) tire, with the tread compound for low temperatures. When it snows heavy, I take my 4WD toyota truck, but I fear "black ice" on my dailey commute with the SVX. Both SVX winter tires performed well, the Nitto was better in actual snow, but more snow tire like on dry.

Alright, after some though I think I'm probably going to just run my all-seasons through the winter, kill them, and then install snows on the stock SVX rims next year. I've been driving my Taurus with all seasons (more on the summer tire side though) for the past few winters, which is an absolute death trap, so the SVX should be a step up regardless.

Come summer I'll put on my new rims and summer tires:

Hey guys, I live here in the great state of igloos in Alaska and I have to tell you that for you to drive the SVX in the winter. All you will need is some All-Season tires if your car is stock or close to it. The year before my transmission died I had on Summer tires and I was able to go about my business in the snow just fine. If you cant manage it with All Season tires you might wanna slow down a bit. Because we all know if u crash ur svx, regardless if it had full coverage or liability, no insurace in hell is gonna repair it. They will just give you a few grand and off you go parting out ur svx. At least, thats my opinion.

Exclamation snow and ice

blizzaks were the ones that made the breakthrough in studless ice traction and i've been loyal to them ever since they were tested on an ice rink. the q rated tires are the ones that stick to ice.

I would like to apologize for that. I didnt read all of the thread that the wheels were first posted in. And I dont know your Ebay name, if I had known you were bidding on them, I might not have bid on them. There were other auctions for Murano wheels and I might have bid on those. I'm sure there will be another chance to get some. And I rarely get out sniped in the last 10sec

And yes, I'm buying Falkens for the wheels. They are M&S tires and a set of 4is going to be about $550. So thats still a chunk of $ for wheels and tires, the most I've ever spent.

After my time at the ice races, I'd have to throw my vote down for the nokian hakkapeliitta RSi over the Revo1's. They felt much more solid around corners, and most importantly IMHO when regaining grip after a slide or drift.

The Hakka line are also the most common tire run at the Sno-Drift rally every year.

Braking, the Revo1's and the Hakka's were about the same. As well as with acceleration.

Nokian makes a few different winter tires. The RSi's are best if you'll be on mostly slippery roads. (ie. roads that get plowed regularly, icy conditions.) If you'll be driving in mostly deeper snow that doesn't get plowed, the Hakkapeliitta 5 is the way to go (you can get it studless comply with local laws).

They've got other models aimed at mainly slushy conditions, etc... depending on the climate you're in. Winter tires (just like all-seasons) shouldn't be a one-size-fits-all scenario. Pick a tire that's made for your style of winter.

I've found my Kumho Ecsta ASX's to be more than competent for New Jersey winters, keeping in mind we haven't had a real winter for a few years now. Most driving is done in cold-weather but not too much snow on the roads, and during the occasional snowstorm, just slow down to a reasonable speed (which is somewhere around 80mph on the highway ) to prevent any hippie tree-hugging scenarios
