Lessons learned drag racing

Doot I mean dragging the 1/4. Can't edit that one.

Baseline starting point. Once something was removed it wasn't reattached
14.7 at 89 2 or 3 times with launches in 1st or 2nd at 2000-2500rpms.
Removed valve cover vents
14.6 at 91 launch in drive (hesitated shifting from 2nd to 34d in the previous launches
Removed 02 sensors to richen the runs (no light ever appeared), pulled vacumn line for fuel pressure regulator
14.5 at 92ish
Removed alt belt and ps belt (already running w/o ac of course)
14.29--14.4 at 94ish for 4 runs or so
Removed grill, turned mirrors in
14.3 at 94-no help
Removed rear deck lid
14.242
Removed hood
14.36

All runs were done with 1/3+ tank of 3 month old gas, no windows (which I wonder if that would've helped. Temps were 70-80 all day morning was the best for air density but that's when we ran our slower runs with of course a novice driver. Thought this might help some of ya gain a couple .1s

Ben,
Looks like pulling off the belts was the big winner. I'm wondering if the .048 when you removed the rear deck lid wasn't just due to hooking up better, not because you removed the deck lid.

Well we ran like 6 runs and couldn't break the 14.3 barrier aside from that 14.289 that Dave jumped the gun on by 1.58 seconds (turns out that would've counted but I ditched the slip). Only thought that it would've helped is to let all the air put the was coming into the windows thus lessening drag. I know we had no trouble hooking up. Narry a wheel spin from the 225s at 40psis up front, 44 rears by the end.

Good point...would have been nice to see what you would have run with the cabin closed up (i.e. windows! )

After the lack of sleep we weren't exactly thinking clearly. Wait maybe it was the 2.5 cases of beer consumed over the 2 nights there. We had windows there and tie downs to put 'em up. Would've taken 5 minutes at most to put 'em in. Just didn't think of it.

Stall launches. Neutral revving rarely works well esp when you have a clock to contend with.

An observer's comment. The car raised up on all fours when reved, then hunkered down when launched and was faster off the line while the turbo cars were still spooling up. Many never caught up.
