another window story

Saturday evening, I-575 north of Atlanta, a pickup I'd overtaken minutes before on I-75 passed me, and a woman in the back seat hung her arm out the window and waved for me to catch up. (Hmmm... what's this? My lonely heart skipped a beat.) As I did she motioned for me to roll down my window, yelled, "I just wanted to see how your window worked!" and gave me a thumbs-up sign.

Cool to be noticed, I suppose, but then, what a letdown.

Da-da-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-da; da-da-dum-dum...........the faint sound of a guitar and a slightly out-of-tune banjo echoed the refrain as the gal in the old Jimmy pickup truck slowed, rolled down her window and waived me near. My heart jumped into my throat as visions of forbidden pleasure waifed before my eyes. Then she smiled a toothless grin, spit out a chew of tobacco and asked, "What's with them silly winders on yore car?" The music changed - it was Ray Charles - "Georgia, Georgia; no peace do I find......"

Significant Technical Input
And that came from someone that lives where people don't yell out their windows but rather crawl out, at highway speeds? They crawl out one window, across the hood or bed and back in on the other side. Go ahead, 'fess up. I can't remember ever going through there that I haven't seen it happen.

I think maybe they stop to pee before going back in. Maybe their windshield washers don't work?

In South Texas it would be a Ford pickup truck with a lever-action rifle over the rear window; she would toss out an empty beer can and ask, "What the hell's the matter with yer winders, cowboy?" Willie Nelson would sing, "On the road again; just can't wait to get on the road again......"
