Flat rate jobs

Ok now that I have most of my stuff settled and my final porject planned for this saturday, I can get back to normal. I figured I would throw some info out there for anyone interested.

Auto trans replacement $400 plus parts(1 day)
-Replacement of stock transmission with one of the same gear ratio.
-Replacement of transmission pan gasket and internal filter.
-Refill of transmission and front differential with fluids of your choice

Auto Trans upgrade- $500 plus parts(1 day)
-Replacement of auto trans with one of a different gear ratio (4.11/4.44)
-Rear differential swap(swapping the LSD carrier from SVX diff to matching gear ratio)
-Replacement of transmission pan gasket and internal filter.
-Refill of transmission and front differential with fluids of your choice

5/6 speed swap $1500-$1600*-$1800** plus parts(1 week)
-Replacement of auto for 5/6 speed manual transmission
-Custom built Cradle style Crossmember
-Shift linkage extension
-Pedal box retro-fit
-Wiring to use reverse lights and neutral safety switch on clutch pedal.
* this is for transmissions besides that of the WRX that need to have the rear differential gear ratio changed.
** this is for the Sti 6 speed transmission in which the owner would like to convert to the R180 rear differential and axles.

I also do most any maintenance of SVXes. This is $40 per hour. Things like timing belt/cam seals/oil pump seals/ water pump/thermostat replacement can all be consolodated into one job. I can also replace your wheels bearings that are screaming at you

If you would like to know more or contact me about your car, feel free to pm me anytime and I will respond as soon as possible

Tom

trying to figure out if my ideas will be worht while. Since many of you do not want to pay so much for someone to do a 5 speed install or have no one to go to, I may have a solution. I am thinking of setting up a jig to make X-members and pedal assemblies for SVXers who want a 5 mt. I can also extend the shift linkage. These parts would in essence make a 5 speed swap a bolt in that most any person could perform. These parts can also be given to a shop for them to install. The problem is I need some people to show interest before I go wasting time making the jigs for them. More importantly, what would these parts be worth to you?? Please restrict responses to something reasonable

I am mostly just trying to see if there is enough interest in getting a kit that it would be worth my while to make.

check out the thread "Gauging interest in a 5mt kit" for an update. No solid prices yet but roundabout $500-$750

Need some work done

From what I can tell you are in PA?

MY son and I need work done. He needs a tranny install and I need bearings ... actually maybe I want to upgrade to a 6 speed at some point. For that matter I think my rear end is trashed (or getting there).

What is the deal on work done across the continent?

Sorc

i noticed someone had an ABS system light that won't go out. If you haven't figured out how to fix it let me know. I may have a fix for you if you haven't driven with it too long.

$500-$750 is the labor? Or the price for the kit? Does the kit make the installation alot of easier? Any rough/best estimate for everything??

The 5 speed kit is basicly all the parts that you would normally have to fabricate to install a 5 speed yourself. This is mainly the transmission crossmember, the pedal assemblies, and the shift linkage. Its more or less a parts package. Basicly, itll save you from needing to measure and cut and weld alot of stuff, plus the quality will probly be better.

Oh I see. Thanks. It wouldn't be that cheap to get a 5mt swap done...

Well I have been thinking of traveling lately Well the thing is, if you wanna fly me out I can do the work for you. I need tools at the ready and space to work in. For things like the bearing requiring specialty tools like the hub tamer, I can bring with me. PM me for more info. If it is a 6 speed conversion you want we can talk more about that

Yes and no. I picked up a 4.11 5mt for $150. Then a 4.11 rear wouldn't cost much more than $100. Then it is mostly trivial parts and the clutch. Still not cheap but hey, I am doing all I can
