I was thinking the same thing!

Except, I would love to see when they dub in all the sirens, and screeching tires, especially seeing as the cops were never really near him...

What happened with Ebay

Hi all,
This is Paul, of the blue "chase" SVX. One of the good things that has come out of this whole mess has been discovering this forum and the people here. You people have been so supportive. My wife and I both said "When we get another one (SVX), we've got to meet some of the people in this group." Anyway, as far as Ebay, my son Zach took it all on because I didn't want any more "drama". He really has gone the extra mile with this. I know he has had fun with it, but it has also been quite an effort. I am grateful.
What happened though was essentially that the bidding started and was reasonable and progressing nicely for two days, up to around $2000, a threshold where with insurance I could buy another SVX in similar shape. Then some scammers joined in jumping the bids up to $5000 and more. Though we raised our eyebrows and hoped, what first seemed like legitimate bids, turned out to be bogus. It takes a while to research and find this stuff out I guess. My son did all he could to find out if they were legit and then canceled them when it seemed apparent that they were phonies. But while they were there this nullified any more legit lower bids. Unfortunately these scammers and their activity screwed up the whole process. So Zach adjusted the reserve so that one more legit bid of $2326, one dollar more than the last bid, would take it, but we never got another bid. It think people saw the high bids and understandably said, "I'm outta here."
After this, we contacted other bidders that seemed legit (there were several around $2K), and explained, but so far none of them, to my knowledge, has responded. That is where it sits. We are hoping that someone that really wanted the car will get back to us. I had the car delivered back to me yesterday...sat in it, still feels real good...engine purrs. I drove it from the road to my parking stall where it currently sits.
One of the other neat things in this process, is that someone, seeing the whole situation, called me about their SVX. He had 2 other cars and decided to part with this one. Though it wasn't my prized Laguna Blue, it is still a very nice car in good shape. Prior to that I had been contemplating flying to the Bay Area or Las Vegas, the only places fairly close by where I had found SVXs that were good possibilities. I didn't look forward to all the driving back though. And despite what is said on the phone, you never know what kind of shape the car is really in til you see it.
Another good thing is that in the midst of all this, the insurance company did make a new offer, bringing things to a place where if I sell the car for even close to the $2000 bid, I will be able to pay for this other one as well as cover my tax and license. Finally I can forget about all this and turn the page. Well, after having two cars stolen (both Subarus) from the same space in 3 years, I guess I know where I am not going to park any more - even for a minute.
Good luck to you all. I look forward to meeting some of you northwest guys soon. Hasta Luego - Paul

PS - If you know anyone that might still be interested in the car, my regular email is paulkm@yahoo

Paul, if you're interested in meeting up with us I would highly recommend attending the annual Dabob SVX meet. I drove out from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to attend this year's event held in August.

Earl (ensteele) is an awesome host and both myself and my dad had an awesome time.

There is the Fall Colors meet coming up this weekend too. I know you don't have your car yet, but watch the North West Forum for meets in the future.

PS The IV Dabob Seafood Meet will probably be on the same weekend next August. (August 4,5 and 6th)
