This is why when I replaced my OEM alarm, I chose one with a proximity sensor AND a pager. They just have to get too close to the car for more than a few seconds to trigger the warning and for me to get a page. In apartment complexes, car alarms tend to be ignored since they false so often. If only my dash would stop popping in heat/cold, I could turn up the sensitivity on the shock sensor too so I can tell for sure if someone actually touches the car.

If the battery is indeed dead, check it for damage. It has been known for thieves to shoot a pellet through the fender, or from some angle where the battery is exposed and drain the electrolyte. Or, the hood can be popped and wires simply clipped. The stock alarm does not monitor for hood intrusion.

The experienced thief will have ear plugs in hand. Unless you inject gas into the cabin or just make the car explode, nothing will stop a determined thief.

First, yes , most are in covered and enclosed area. The couple I drve are in the drive way in front of the garage. It takes real Ba--s to be that close to the house and steal a stereo. All he needed to do is ring the doorbell and ask for one. I have one right there for people who do that so they don't have to break into my cars.

Next, I live in an area with close neighbors right across the street. It has been a good area until a couple of crack heads have moved into the area.

Sorry

Sorry about your loss Earl. But, I sure am not sorry about where I live. I actually leave the keys in all of my parked vehicles. No problems whatsoever with theft. Set up some bright lights with motion detectors. Of course every coon and skunk would light you up.

You can get them with a sensitivity adjustment that allows you to tune-out small animals. I always know when something larger than one of my yard cats comes onto my place.

Sorry to hear about this Earl.

Sensible increased security would seem to be the way. Once they get away with it once or twice, it's open season, you'll have no comfort.
