Subaru SVX at auction...

Theres an auction near me that will be selling a Subaru SVX within the next few days and was thinking about bidding on it. Anyway this is how it works: Peoples cars get towed to the auction that had outstanding tickets or whatever so there is "NO KEYS TO THE CARS" anyway last time I bought a 1992 Subaru Legacy Lsi auto there for $550 and then we found the key inside the car!

I think it cost $50 to get the key done but am not sure since we found the key last time. Anyway under the circumstances what are the odd's that this baby would start? Last time the Legacy started right up at my house which made me really happy, but then we found out the darn transmission wasn't shifting into 2nd gear (subaru cant build a trans if thier life depended on it back then) Anyway I owned a Subaru SVX from dec '03-june '04 and I do miss it. Anyway what would you bid? what should I look for? By the way they dont let you even open the doors, however they do let you open the hood. Would the door? (my old SVX had the alarm dismantled, or it didnt work?)

So what is the question? What would I bid? What is the paint like, tire condition, glass cracked, outside looks? You can have a key make using the VIN at any dealership. It is about $6.00. What does the interior look like? Rips or tears? I would pay just as little as I could and hope the tranny worked. Good luck.

Thank you ensteele for the informative post. This was probly the wrong idea posting this on the SVX boards since everyother SVX'er will now be intrested in the auction. Oh man what if it is the old SVX? I sure wish I have the key. Anyway I have to go and see this now because I have a feeling it's my old baby which was modded when I got it. Anyway I still got the VIN number on my old one. Oh well I probly will buy it and find the transmission isnt shifting at all. So far I saw 2 green SVX, 1 purple, 1 white (torn up pretty bad) in the Philadelphia region.

edit:by the way what would you bid in a dollar amount? thats the basic question.

My old VIN is: JF1CX3533NH107460 can someone look it up? hehe.

We would need to know the condition of the exterior, the interior, the year, the model, the miles, the tires, tranny care items (filter/cooler/rebuild), rust, etc. before we could give you an idea of price. I have seen SVXs with good trannys go as low as $2000, but a high-end price of $2000 for one with a bad tranny as well.

I'd say an average shape 92 LS-L with ~110k (seems average) miles in that particular auction (can't open door, can't drive it, etc), you should start really low and bid up to a max in the (pulling a # out of my ___) $2500-3000 range, assuming you're confident that it is in good shape.

You're pretty much in the SVX capital of the world, so be sure to check autotrader and our For Sale forums here to see if there are others near you to check out.

Hmm. So what is the deal with PA being the highest number of SVX's? Strange, no?

Here I thought Colorado was. I will be going with my friend tommorrow and will be posting pictures on here soon. I might do a trial run today and try to take some pictures of the car, but might be impossible to do?

Auction or not, SVXs seem undervalued

Your auction secret is safe wiht me in Chicago. BTW deals may be rampant... a guy at my neighborhood Subaru dealership bought an SVX with a bad tranny, replaced it and loves the car. Don't know what year, etc., but this - plus the used prices I've seen - indicate that prices certainly are far from affected by any sense of "collectibility."

How do you insert the image?
Anyway I took pics of the car at the auction. Had a few people looking at me like i was nuts but whatever. Anyway I just need to know how to insert the image. I clicked on Insert Image but there's another step I got to do, any help would do thanks.

You first have to have the pic's some ware on the net. You can use your locker here on the form. Then .
