Thanks all.

Something just dawned on me as I was reading the suggestion posts: Does Denver fit the bill? I don't know how hot it gets there in the summer, but it's fairly central and I hear there is a lot to do there. And, as someone suggested, it *is* someplace people would drive to with family, SVX meet aside. Those who have been there/lived there feel free to chime in.

I agree. I want to meet some of our Southwestern/Western members. Being a Southerner, I know I'm don't like venturing too far North.

Denver's even better than KC for me (obvious reasons)..... but is it truly central? Seems like its pretty far for the east coast guys.... but I want to be fair to the west coast guys too.

I'd be willing to make the drive! But yes, we'd have to see how many here in The East would be willing to do it. 'Sides, I've heard there are quite a few SVX's there, so why not?

First, I want to thank all those who have already volunteered their time to this project. We still need more SVXers to volunteer to make this gathering a rousing success.

Second, most SVXers want this gathering to take place in the summer. I fully agree. I first suggested Kansas City as a meeting place because it was central to the USA. Now I dont think that Kansas City is such a good idea, because of the really hot weather during the 10th Anniversary SVX Meet. I think we need a place that is significantly cooler in the month of July. I think that the Minneapolis-St. Paul (twin cities) area or Wisconsin (Elkart Lake?) will provide good weather without being overly hot.

Please post your opinions/suggestions, and please remmember that we need central US and not too hot in July. I will greatly appreciate input from anyone that lives in these areas.

Thanks all.
Well, there are two paces I can think of to have the meet, one is Colorado Springs, rather than Denver, it's easier to get to and no farther from the east coast since 70 splits off at Limon. You have Pikes Peak and Manitou Springs as drawing cards as well as the race way in Fountain. One other place will meet some resistance for sure, but until you have been there...well, you would just have to see for yourself. I am thinking of Polson or Kalispell Montana. You are right on Flathead lake, which gives you a circular route on US 93 to Kalispell hang a right...go through Glacier and then back down the east shore on MT35. Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. If you want to experience heaven on earth, that is the place. Afterwards, those from the south or southeast can take I-15 down through Vegas and then back home. From here in Florida, about as far away as you can get, you can make the trip there in 4 days or less. You have Glacier National Park and the Flathead Reservation to check out. NW Montana is the best kept secret in the country. Hey, if you want another side trip Calgary is just up the road.

Hey I'm in NH now but (hopfully) in Collage in FL then, so can we try to make it more central, please? I hate to whine but damn CO from FL is a huge difference. Oh I hate to sound like I am tring to be a smart ass, but yets try to do it in someplace noone, here, has been. I mean change is good, and seeing the world is better.

Colorado is nice but I know from experience that some SVXers have trouble with the thin air (pass me another cigarette), so I'm leaning toward Minnesota for the cooler summer temps. and its centrality.

I would really like Cherry Hill, NJ (Phila. area & home of SOA), but it's too darn hot and humid in the summer and too far on the east coast for the left coast SVXers to drive (except for a couple of crazy Candian SVXers that I know ).

Waaaay back in 1989, when I was with the BMWCCA, they had their annual "Oktoberfest" (national meet) in Keystone CO in July.
I can't say enough about the area for a summer meet. Just beautiful. All the roads are scenic routes, all "driver's roads." I do remember the BMW I had at the time had a noticeable lack of power at around 10,000 feet but not really affected in the 5,000 to 8,000 range.

Okay, so no bites on my original ideas, so how about this. Lets face it, this is one large country. I don't think there could be the one place we could all agree on from a logistical standpoint. To ask someone from Pennsylvania to drive to Colorado seems a bit unreasonable, likewise from Florida. California or Washington members driving to the east coast is likewise unreasonable. Bottom line, the only practical way would be to hold mini-meets across the country, maybe four locations....one Northeast, one Southeast , one west of the Mississippi and one west of the Rockies. Since the meets are regional, there won't be any complaints about the heat or the length of the drives. More members can actually attend since they are regional. Now we open up a whole bunch of neat places to meet. I would have no problem driving from Sarasota to say, Savannah for a meet. The idea I suppose is for us to find locations as close to a one day drive each way as possible. Saves on gas and more money for adult beverages, for those of us who imbibe. With the technology today, we can use our video phones to email a designated counterpart at another meet. We can find hotels that have FREE networking and with one laptop we can share our experiences realtime. I know I am probably crazy for suggesting this, but if we want to actually have a meet, then the more the merrier and I just don't see how it can be done with one location without alienating some members. And as for the canucks, let them go to any of them, just fill my prescription before you leave.

John

Jerry,

I did not mean that the cars were oxygen starved. I meant that the people were wozy and gasping, and that was in 1985 when we were all in better shape.
