Bad news for the '95 Polo

Well... Just got back from the full on inspection prior to purchase and I've brought a laundry list...

In addition to what I mentioned in my previous thread:

Sagging driver's side sun visor (which the current owner just velcroed to the roof).
Timing belt will likely need to be replaced soon
Tires have about a year left on them.
Transmission was rebuilt at 80k (115k miles on her now),
Loose window switches.
She'll need a tranny cooler.
..and there's a small dent in the left rear fender.

Brakes, front and rear: Bad
Bearings, Rear: Bad
Power steering: Leaking
Crankshaft: Leaking
Transmission: Slow to shift 2 out of 7, dirty fluid. (The SVX expert thinks this can be cleared up by a flush... If I'm going to have him do one, after hearing the horror stories on here, it's going to be the first thing I have him do so I'm not out more than the $2700.00)
Seat belt guides: Broken
Wiper blades: Junk
Antenna: Broken
Driver side window switch: bad
Very minor rust on the undercarriage.

I got a ballpark quote from the service center for $1400 to take care of the stuff mentioned above (+120 more for the timing belt if they do it all together.). So, I offered the kid to pay off his lien, but couldn't go any higher ($2700).

He'll be getting back to me this evening..

A couple unexpected (..and pleasant) surprises:

He has both key remotes and they're in awesome condition.

He has the original window sticker.

The pictures do NOT do the paint justice.. It is a BEAUTIFUL emerald green. If I didn't know better, I'd say it was pearlescent. There's your typical parking lot dings, but nothing major.

Ouch. That's an extensive laundry list of items to fix. I think you made the owner a fair offer.

Aye, but the silver lining is.. If the kid accepts my offer and I get the work done... I'll have the car for the same amount I was willing to pay and in better condition than I could've hoped.

Agreed. If you get it, the car will be in tip-top shape and as good as new!

CarFax pulled it up as a '95, and I suppose I should've specified.. Automatic seatbelts.

What he was trying to say is that 95's didn't have auto seat belts.

Ahh.. I wasn't aware of this.. The mechanic mentioned something about the belts that was broken but said it wasn't a safety concern. I just assumed it had auto seatbelts.. I don't know what else it could be then.

Probably the seat belt guide on the side of the seat that the lap belt goes through.

Also... Opinons are welcome here to whether or not I should even bother buying it and getting it repaired....

The fact that it's the "only game in town" hasn't made me very impartial on the matter.

Seems like alot to be changed. But i will tell you its worth it. Once you own the SVX you will love it even more no matter what. And when you do get it fixed it will be as good as new. Just remember to get a tranny cooler if you do indeed buy that SVX. Its one of the cheapest and best mods you can do and will make your SVX last a long time.
