If you work at a hotel you must have access to lots of pillows, right? That would work

How about some of those super huge, super absorbent maxi pads? Those are pretty cushy and would keep your car dry as well!

And if you get the kind with the adhesive backing, they'll even stay in place!

You're a long way from shelter. You're out on the prairie in Texas, & there're no underpasses to hide under. The sky is ominous & you hear the ping of hail. Here's my plan.

Open the hood, sunroof & deck lid. Oh, it's best to first pull over and stop the car first. You've now minimized the surfaces that hail can damage by 60%. Cover the exposed part of the roof with the front floor mats. Cover the horizontal portion of the raised deck with the rear floormats. Now sprawl your bod across the front seats to cover the console & listen to the CD until the storm passes. So what if the engine bay's covered in ice?....it needed a good cleaning anyway.
You say your back is bruised & bloody? Something to post about in the Mod forum.

Glad to be of service.

Ron(will take a small caliber bullet to save my faux-wood dash parts).

about the slang! lmao

You have a very good idea about saving the car from hail. I will put that into my poor used up brain cells that have been abused by .... any way, I will remember it in case.

Thanks

(Ron still has a few brain cells left after finishing that Box-O-Wine)

Here's what I've done

I don't know if you could do this at work but this is what I've done at home.
It may look stupid, but I've had hail damage once and I'm not going to have it again.

An honestly serious answer would be to go to Walmart and buy a Car cover. Take the cover home and use double sided tape(or just use the fixall tape- duct tape) on the inside to the cover and use folded up towels to act as padding and cover the whole car with padding and car cover. Thought about is as well while it was hailing here in Idaho. Just a thought.

What about the belly pan? That would help too! Just put that over the area where the sunfoof is open.

BordeauxComet, I like the carbon fiber hood. Great solution. All you need now is graphite fenders, trunk, and roof.

How about a pop-tent for protection? QuickDraw makes one that's 8'x10'. I don't know what a typical hail storm is like, but if it's windy I don't think a tent isn't gonna work.

I keep thinking those giant life rafts would be great. You know the ones that have a giant CO2 canister that inflates on contact with the water? Get one of those giant inflatable mattresses and the CO2 canister from a life raft and you're set.

Check this out: Here's the instant inflator, and here's the tent. Just pull the rip-cord.

There are a gajillion companies that make inflatable stuff, and most are pretty large. You could even have one made to fit an SVX. If you could only get it permanently installed, think of the applications! Get the James Bond style remote control and you're set. A bird lands on the car and ruffles it's butt-feathers - pfoomp! A shopping cart rolling across the parking lot towards your fender - pfoomp! Need to fjord a raging river on the way to work - pfoomp! Air bags on the outside of the car to protect you and your baby. If the neighbor's cat even thinks of walking across the hood with it's dirty paws... Pfoomp! Myerow!

....it must be late 'cause my brain is just full of wild ideas.
