Gas grades?

Gas prices have been fluctuating quite a bit lately, but
Premium seems to stay above $1.70 per gallon. Does
the SVX absolutely positively need Premium, or can i
go with the lower octane stuff? just cant afford Premium
forever, me being poor and all (and dont gimme dat crap
about "you shouldnt have an SVX if you arent able to pay
for the cost, I love my car!)

anyone know if I can step down to mid grade gas from a 42000 mile life of Premium?

Our cheapest fuel is Regular 95 octane, and that costs nearly $5 / gallon .....

The car will get poorer mileage if you use mid grade gas and will shorten the life of the engine. Because you said not to give you that other line, I won't, but I would have if you had not told me not to.

1.74 for premium here in utah.

And im pretty sure without premium under WOT, there could start to be some pinging, what are these motors, 12 :1? ha....I might be able to use mid-grade with the altitude tho...not soo much o2 to cause detonation....

The EG33's compression ratio is 10:1.

To better understand gasoline grades, and why the SVX requires premium fuel, I recommend:

Cool

I'll let you do the math, BUT:

If 93 octane costs $1.75 p/gallon, & 89 costs $1.65 (typical in my neighborhood) & you average 22 mpg & drive 12K per year; you'll save a whopping FIFTEEN CENTS per day by pouring rotgut into that fine touring machine. One less cheap beer at a fleabag bar will break you even for a week. Better yet - Don't "supersize" any MacMeal.

Ron (of course, I'LL drink 87 octane anything).

Ron

I thought if you saved that much, you'd go for the beer anyday. Or, maybe the wine instead.

Boy, that sure puts $1.70/gal. premium in perspective, doesn't it?!

As much as I hate spending more than I have to, ya gotta realize that compared to 'world' standards, our gas is still CHEAP.......

For the amount you save, you'd end up spending more when you have to work on your engine.

now that we have established the need for premium fuel, does anyone believe that certain brands of fuel are better than others?

Conoco does it for me everytime. My car runs terribly on other branded fuels other than high grade Conoco?
