Professor being mean!

Ok, so to keep you guys informed, I emailed my professor to ask her when this paper we were assigned is due, because on the syllabus she gave us it wasn't listed near the assignment. I did find it after I got her email but still ...she was very rude...Im going to paste her email to me, and my reply. Tell me what you guys/gals think.

Hers : I think you might want to drop the class/ You are constantly asking me what you should be doing--what don't you get?

Ok..here's my reply...

There is no need to be rude. I have only asked you 2 questions. I will NOT be dropping this class and I will look forward to writing two very well written papers. The reason I ask YOU what I should be doing is because last time I checked you are the one teaching the class, and before we left with all these days off, your explanation of things was not very thorough.

i fell asleep one time in this stupid sociology class (elective) that the professor thought was the most important course in anyone's schedule.

he very loudly pointed me out to the rest of the class and told me that there is no sleeping in HIS classroom and that i should leave if i could not pay attention! i told him "i'm paying $400(?) for this class and i'll do crossword puzzles if i feel like it." he didn't bother me anymore.

I only know your side of the story, but so far I don't think there's any reason for your professor to be so rude.

Maybe she's related to Rob and she's having a bad day.

Well thats all that really happened...I asked her when this paper was due, and thats the answer I received...cool huh? lol I can't wait to hear her reply. I would drop the class but I want to prove her wrong, and I already paid for it, so I am just going to have to deal with her. Hopefully she doesnt let this affect my grade!

hahahaha NOOOOOO...not with his and you pushing! lol, I did find my original email to her which started it all though...here's the email:

Dr. Thornberry-
I'm still unsure about what is going on with due dates for this paper we
are supposed to write and what exactly we're supposed to write about. I
have my amendment and everything but I don't recall ever hearing a due date.
Also, I am going to miss class next week because I am going to take the
ASVAB for the Coast Guard, and it's a two day process. I would like to know
what I should be doing while I am not in class. Thanks.

Hrm. I don't think I could have stood for that. I think my reply would have been along the lines of :

"Dr. Thornberry. Thank you for your extremely courteous response. I sincerely apologize for offending you with my honest question about due dates, and will not make the same mistake in the future. Instead, I shall simply call your home phone number.

make a copy of that email she sent you....and the question you asked her and make enough copies for the class you are in and give then out...then give a copy to the Dean at your college.

if you really need a grade in that class and don't want to repeat it, suck it up though, and do exactly what rob said...make yourself the sorry one, she will feel bad and knock the BS off.

Well, this is why it depends on what she says back, I was able to retrieve the emails from the trash in my hotmail account so if worse comes to worse i can always make a surprise oral presentation

i can promise you that you will lose...your grades will suffer, your GPA will go down, i had a 3.9 GPA...and after a few head knocking with my nursing professor...it dropped not to mention...if you need the class for your major...you may have to pass this class with this particular teacher and if there are other teachers that you can take the course with, remember, they all work together...they have meets and most of them have nothing better to talk about with eachother then B***** about students that are causing "problems" in class. i would honestly say from experience, suck it up, ask with genuine interest why she was so mean to you, face to face...and maybe you will get an answer and the BS will stop....but please, like Mr. Pockets said, no ego contest!

can you write your paper now and know when it is due?

if yes, then stop writing her e-mails and wait for her class again, then schedual with her a face to face conference/meeting/whatever and talk about what just happened. if you two keep going back and forth, it is going to cause more problems for you then it is worth. i had about the whole class backing me up for what i believed when i had an issue with a teacher of mine, and guess what, i still got screwed...it doesn't matter that you are right, and you probably are, but how would you feel as a "high, all knowing, and all mighty" college professor with some freshman trying to prove you wrong, it wouldn't work for you, and i doubt it is going to work with her. e-mails aren't too good at protraying emotions, maybe her mother just died or something...just wait till the next class to talk to her anymore
