Question BALL JOINTS > > > L o o s e ? ?

While replacing my front bearings recently, I noticed the lower ball joints and tie rod end ball joints were all very LOOSE! I thought they should be tight (hard to move by hand), but they all are very loose and easy to move. However, they do not appear to be so loose that they're clunky, just easy to move by hand.

Is this normal? Thanks for your help!

P.S. When replacing the tie rod ends (crown nut), I could not find a torque figure anywhere in the OEM shop manuals!!! I used 40 ft-lbs >> Is that OK?

Ball joints are very loose after they have been used as in rotatable but NOT as in up and down or side to side movement. I replaced mine when I got the car and the ones I took out were good. As you say they were very free but no slop.
