Aftermarket Rebuilt Drive Axles? Any good?
I just picked up a front left drive axle as my left one has started to click.
Cost me$110CAN, thats like $20US, after Core credit. Its cheaper than 2 new boots. I've read some posts that say they are pretty lousy. But I thought I'd try one for myself. I'm swapping out the trany, so my mechanic said its a free install. The part came with a 1 year warranty. Any opinions? FYI: purchased from Lordco Auto Parts. Lordco.com.

1/2 axles are kinda a crap shoot. Do you remember what company you got them from as some are better than others? Last year I got one for my brat from the subie mechanic I take it to and paid $120 plus $50 to install it. I could've gotten one for $25-30 but this came with a lifetime warranty that includes labor to. The mechanic said he had been using this rebuilder for about 5 years and never had a problem with his rebuilds. 3 months later I had a boot tear and he fixed it .

I'll Have to look at the axle to see if I can find the rebuilder name.
I did purchase a brand new Suby axle in Chicago for $417US,That just about killed me.

For the Canucks,
Earthworm found the axles at Canadian Tire for $117 after core. I just picked up one, and it's made by Fenco, with a lifetime warranty. VK |

Yes, I got mine from Lordco, for $101 after core, 1 year warranty, but my mechanic says they are crap, he uses a guy that rebuilds Factory axles for the same price, so next time....
But you can't beat a lifetime warranty.

Marty at Raxles.com will send you an axle rebuilt to higher-than-OEM standards for $150 + core.. he's a great guy with just about the weirdest sense of humor i've ever seen.. his product is top notch, and fitment is always perfect..
seems a little on the expensive side though, based on what i've seen.. still, $300 for two axles is better than $417 for one.... -adam |
