new to the svx world, wondering 1/4 times

Im new to svx's, my friend just recently bought one and untill then i knew nothing about the car but after checking it out and doing a lil research online i really like the car. I like the more rare imports, the ones you dont expect and that can give those honda guys with their reactive mufflers and colored wiper arms a run. I myself drive a 96 maxima 5spd and i love it but i am fond of my friends blue svx...i was curious what kind of times you guys bring in the 1/4 mile, me and him raced the other night but the roads were sandy making the race suck for bother of us, i figured he'd have a little bit of an advantage being auto but seeing as how his rear diff is blown leaving him with front wheel drive we both just spun tires for a good 30 feet...its just out of curiousity, i like his car he likes mine, its just a friendly match up to see what he can run with...

The SVX isn't a race car. Look at something else.

Chris,

That's the reasoning behind our saying it.

Have a great New Year.

The SVX isn't a race car - unless it's your personal SVX and that's what you want it to be.

I've had folks tell me in the past that my '80 Subaru Wagon/'84 Colt Vista weren't autocrossers - but they got around the track just fine, and without losing every race they entered. If I want to go to the drags with a garbage truck, the instant I stage up, it becomes a race car. If every car that showed up had to give evidence of having the ability to win, the tracks would go broke. There's a lot more of us out there who race for fun, than race to win. (Have I made my point yet?)

Its really not fast at all in the quarter, its geared all wrong for it. That doesn't mean the car is slow by any means though, it just isn't meant for the 1/4. Have your friend give you a ride, and at about 70-80mph, have him punch it. THATS what the SVX is made for.

Most of what you fellows are posting refers to the '92 & 93 SVXes.
My '97 is definitely slower than my '92.
But it is also alot smoother. They must have changed the shift points and the final drive ratio for 97.

I make these observatins from experience. This applies to off the line and stomping on the gas at 80 mph.
The '92 just seems to have a lot more power and pulls stronger from o mph to 100 mph.

I have not taken the '92 over 100 mph out of respect for its age and I'd like to keep my butt in one piece.

Yes

having owned both 92 and 94s in the past, I can tell that 92s will launch like mad. 94+ are smoother cars.

As our new comer's friend, he has a blue svx so it is at least a 94.

Kind of slow but smooth higher end car.

ok its just a friendly race, me and him havent got the chance for a highway trip yet seeing as how the car isnt registered and i dont doubt it being strong on the highway but you obviously arent aware that the vq engines in maxima's are also incredibly powerfull on the high way more so in standard form...and also remember that im not hating on your car or saying its slow so dont hate on my car since i have no idea what your car is capable of and you probably have no idea what mine is capable of, i love the svx because its a diferent and rare car and its just a nice car and im going to do whatever i can to help my friend learn more about the car and where it stands as far as performance...either way...thanx for the help, his cars a 94 also....i do have one question for you guys, do you have any major exhaust mods for your car, with the maxima theres the y pipe that eliminate 2 out of the 3 cats and gives between 15-20 wheel hp gain, he was looking to do somthing along the same lines as that with the svx but again niether of us know much about the car yet...
and again thanx for the help and remember i have a lot of respect for your cars...

dan all in fairness it would be a close i ran a 15.3 in mine completly stock

i have to say this

the svx top end is what most cars can only dream abought i have no doubt in my mind i can easily do 130 mph for hours on end and with stability and feeling safe

also the AWD take offs is something awsome of its own also no mater what road condetions or tires makes on difrence

mid rang svx lags behind most likely u wil pull on a svx mid range since your is FWD and svx is AWD

if u do not beilive this race a svx 100 mph on and u will be in such amazment i was and stability is incredible. ths svx is audobahn car and luxury gt car

i personaly dont take it that fast i have opened her upa few times but there is no safe road to do it and its dangerous
