Re: Hood struts: FYI

Awesome! I just got a pair from McMaster Carr and installed them for $45 total including shipping, screws, and washers. The best part is that assists my hood release spring enough to actually pop my hood with the release handle on the dash. Now I can finally put my grille on.

And........Made in the US!

The mcmaster part numbers all show a 5/16"-18. Which isnt an issue on the frame/body mount as I can swap to a 5/16" nut, but the hood mount mount is tapped metric. I am trying to avoid a re-tap on the hood mount holes, to 5/16, and would consider just ordering a new set given the relative affordability.Which end would be the "right ends"?Ballsocket?eyelet?threaded?
I popped the old threaded ball out of the old strut and used it in the new one. I left it connected to the hood and wedged a screwdriver between the strut and the threaded ball, then pulled out on the bottom of the strut. It took a few times, to gently work it off.
This write up works perfectly and now the hood stays up. Very happy with it.

I forgot to add that I used the 4138T57 struts.
