What am I missing, here?
All right, I just picked up my SVX today, and I knew it was missing pieces of the interior ahead of time, but now that I look at it... I'm not sure what exactly is missing. This is my first SVX and I have no clue what I'm looking at!
The original radio is gone, and it doesn't look like there's a harness either. Harness shouldn't be too hard to source, and I have a radio already. Alpine CDA-9847, coupled with the KCE-415i iPod adapter. It's from my old Legacy. So the ultimate goal here is to get the 1-DIN head unit into my SVX. Anybody have experience with Alpines? Here's a pic of what I'm dealing with... hopefully the more experienced among ya will know what's missing. Thanks a bunch in advance! |

SVXdc sells the harnesses and plug adapters for them. That would be your best bet.

And it's time for round two! I dragged the car out of the garage and took inventory of the situation. What I found... was kinda scary.
February 28th Photos Especially the Driver's Side Wheel Well, the Strange Red Button, the dangling wires... Car took three tries to start but it's been sitting, so I kinda expected that. On the other hand, the engine is making a fairly constant ticking sound at idle. It does go away and come back sporadically, but it's there most of the time. Not cool. My dad says it's a stuck lifter 'cause of old oil, I hope he's right.. No freakin' clue what that button does, though. I did press it, but didn't notice anything... |

The wires in this photo;
http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil..._Wan/42074.png are after market, most likely for an alarm or starter, my guess is the "red button" is part of that system also. For the tapping, try some Marvels Mystery Oil.

Ok, here we go.
First, the strange red button. I would say that the hanging wires under the steering wheel have something to do with the red button. I don't know what it is or does, but it probably doesn't work now. I would look under the dash and see where the wires go. You should be able to see where they were spliced into the OEM wires. I would trim them off and tape them so they will not interfear with the function of the car anymore. Next - the antenna looks like it was broken off and you would need another one. Look in the How-To docs and look at the antenna replacement file. You can probably replace the antenna itself and you won't need the motor. The antenna will just go into the hole and hook up to the motor and it will explain how to do that. Looks like you are also missing the under fender plastic piece that is the splash guard. If you need anything else, let us know. Good luck.
