another start up problem
I took my car to work today because we have heated parking. Long story short i hooked up a new brake light socket because mine was corded causing the brake lights not to work at that light and the stop lamp light came on everytime i pressed the brakes.
ANyway, after the switch i went to start the car to see if the light still came on. When i started the car it died in the middle of cranking like i didn't have enough battery juice. Now when i try to start it again it doesn't even click, i tried to start it in park and neutral. I check all my fuses none are blown. I unhooked the lamp even. I did voltage test on the battery and it is 11 volts with no load and around 7 when i have the key in the on position. Something really drained my battery, but also the car won't even try to start. I have had issues before and i was able to try to start my car till the lights and radio don't work anymore. Anyone have advice. It is a minor emergency for me as I will be stuck at work with no resolution |

Your battery has tested as showing that it is near discharged. (Flat)
It would appear that there is probably a short circuit associated with the brake light system, as you have indicated the two incidents have occurred simultaneously. A little detective work is called for.

Yeah that is what i am assuming also, but i disconnected the new brake light socket so it isn't hooked up anymore. And i checked all my fuses and still nothing. I turn the key no click, no anything except all the lights in the dash go dim as i hold the key trying to start it.
One thing i didn't mention before maybe this will help, I have been having cold start issues, but i mentioned i start up perfect everytime if i keep the key in the on position for a while. What i have been doing is keeping the key in the on position intil the air bag light goes off. But the air bag light isn't turning off anymore. Also one more thing that i should maybe ask as well is i went to a pick a part to get a new brake light socket, i pulled one from a honda, it is the exact same shape and wire colors and takes the same size bulb. I am going to try a jumpstart see how that goes
just wondering if there is anything else electrical i can check besides the fusepanel in the engine compart ment and by the gas and brake pedals |

yep a good battery will read 12.4 V at 11 its not going to start your car... charge the battery first then you can start to diagnose why the battery drained (maybe just old)
