cracking noise from windshield

whenever i am starting from a stop or over bumps, my windshield will make a cracking sound like something is snapping
this does not seem normal and it really sounds like my windshield will crack again

it has happened with my windshield before (that developed a huge crack out of nowhere) and with the new windshield (only wayt to get it was from the dealer)...anyway i can prevent this sound/protect my windshield? i really don't want to have to replace my windshield again...
thanks

That's odd.
Go to the front of your car and lightly press on the edges of the glass to see if it makes that noise.
It could be something else.
Maybe the adhesive failed, or it's your vinyl trim or something.

Inspect the glass for hairline cracks. If it's going to break I don't think you can stop it, but check some glass companies in your area and see if they can recondition it if you find the glass is what's making the sound.

Any warranties on the glass? How about auto insurance coverage?

Nope - I would do the silicone spray trick and live with the rest.

does this hurt the windshield though?
i can live with the noise as long as i know its not goign to endanger the integrity of the windshield.
and can i just get silicone and put it in the very corner where the dash meets the windshield and hopefully be done with it?

Can you confirm it's the windshield and not just the dash?

I've heard this is common in the early year models and it's the dash and windshield surround pieces. Later year models, and not just the manufacturer Subaru, started using the silicone liquid gasket to aliviate the noise.

My car has the loud crack too, But mine is depending on temperature. It's the dashboard that does it and there was a recall because of it. I think it was caused by some sort of bushing or something, But I don't recall.
