i get really bad sinus headaches too (and i broke my nose right around christmas so they got worse)

I've found a good hot shower tends to loosen things up and makes it better (try standing with the water running on too your forehead. its like a massage for them!). Warning do not look at what comes out of your nose! its the grosses looking stuff. (now you'll look)

Some ppl use that nose spray stuff but i find that doesnt help me much and i'm just plain bad at it.

My dad uses a water pick with a nose sparyer attachment and swears by it. It shortens up cold and makes you feel loads better (and prevents sinus infections) Or water pik is broken or i'd do it (and its gross to share a nose spayer) but the shower works well too.

I do NOT suggest benadril or anything for allergies. It drys out the sinuses and they can bleed and cause infections. I dont use sinus medicationso i cant say if it works but i use benadryl to help me sleep and it instead made me cry in agony.

I had blocked sinuses for a few years, then I found a miracle cure.

Go to your local swimming pool and swim to the bottom of the deep end. Repeat several times. Be ready to move quickly.

Every time my sinuses start to play up I head for the pool. If you live near the sea, this may be a more public-spirited option. (Do not wear a mask)

I used to get these very often, I had a prescription for flonase and it worked amazingly. I no longer have that so I start with a cup of good hot coffee then a good hot shower and if that doesn't do it Tylenol sinus. I have allergies and smoke so I'm just asking for blocked sinuses. No preaching-thank you. Hope you feel better.

Preace! PREACE! PREACH!!!!!

The worst sinus headache i had was shortly after breaking my nose, my boyfriend (the nose breaker!) and i decided to spend the weekend with his dad's family in their apartment. Both his dad and stepmom are chain smokers. It nearly killed me. They would go to work in the morning and by evening i would be alright but then they would both come home and smoke constantly from 5 pm to 2 am. My sinus we so dry i soaked by brand new (and expensive) light pink pillow case and pillow with blood both nights. I couldnt talk, i couldnt eat, i could puke just fine though!

I cant stand going to thier place. We babysit thier 4 year old daughter but now i insist she comes here b/c i just cant take the smoke. Alex had a smokers hack by the time she was 2 and has to take a million meds and use a nebulizer b/c they think she's getting asthma (but they still smoke in her bedroom!) Her mom smoked the whole time she was pregnant with her and tells me how lucky she was b/c she didnt get fat when she was pregnant b/c she had alex when she was 35 weeks along! Yeah that wasnt good for alex you know!

I live in the Delaware Valley which is reputed to be the sinus capitol of the world. I have suffered with sinus headaches for about 40 years now, I have been to doctors allergists and specialists. Nothing (perscription or over the counter) has really worked. Over the years I have found a few home remedies that have worked somewhat.
1. A chewing motion seems to unclog the siuses. I suggest sugarless gum.
2. A nasal spray of simple salt dissolved in water may help. Use an old perfume atomizer.
3. Drink plenty of water.
4. There are many allergic food triggers which bring on a sinus attack. Some are dairy products, chocolate, sugar, nutri-sweet, wine (sulfites), etc.

Sometimes steam from a pot of boiling water or a hot compress helps.
I feel your pain.
Good luck.

My doc (years ago) also told me to avoid nuts, and caffeine. (Chocolate, nuts, Coke... only my favorite things.)

A trick I learned for quick (if temporary) relief it to pinch the nostrils closed and GENTLY exert pressure as you would to blow your nose. You can hear the sinus passages pop open.

My sinus headaches have gotten much less severe as I've aged; they used to literally put me down, and no medication would touch the pain. Now an OTC sinus headache preparation usually does the trick.

I prefer the hot showers method... It really helps a lot in the morning.

I also use pseuphedrine (sp?). It's the old Sudafed, before it got reformulated as Sudafed PE (with phenylephrine (sp?)). Works well for me.

I hate em too, best drug I ever took for em was Tylenol cold and sinus extreme congestion with cool burst ... not extreme sinus... that just put me to sleep.

turns (()) into

I've tried em all including various clartin scripts, and that was the best for me... mine are caused by pollen, nothing else seems to bother em. The hot shower helps me out too!

...if that helps.

Smoke bothers my lungs and throat though DOS... that causes another fun side effect that I have to deal with the day after being exposed to it don't worry I won't gross ya out with that. but I too suffer from smoking relatives
