This is what it has come down too...

Ok, I dont trust that guy with the s2k caus he said he wouldn't have time to get the pics I asked for so... no deal...

but I have found the car I have wanted for some time... I have found a 1992 Nissan 240 SX, its fully loaded, GREAT shape, SUPER low miles, only 54k on it! SO I could do my dream build and buy that... but I have come across a heck of a deal I cant pass up...

I was browsing around yesturday and found a Garrett turbo out of a 03 I think he said Saab, so I think I might hold off on the 240 and build up a turbo SVX! Wadda you guys think...?

Everyone on the other board I am a member of was split between the two...

SVX is a million times nicer in fit and finish than the 240.

Wow... dude... That's a lot of work. Sounds like a few months on the fabrication and tweaking highway at full throttle. Do you have the time, and the ability to shut down your SVX that long?

Just from the extremely few (1 or 2) that have pulled this off, it doesn't sound like no weekend job here.

As for doing it, I for one would like to hear another turbo success story.

I think you should turbo the 240. It has been done before and the rewards of doing it will come sooner. Not so much so with the SVX as only a few people have done it, even fewer successfully. Go for the 240. Then, after it is completed and you still have the itch, do the SVX. When you get frustrated, you can go out and drive your turbo'd 240.

I think what this comes down to is which car would you rather beat the crap out of.
Plenty of people have 240s and they are great stoplight beaters. Good around the cones. Not too bad lookin'. Eats up boost. RWD as I recall and probably has a manual gearbox.

imho....

The turbo is a large undertaking, something I would not consider doing to my SVX, as it would incapacitate her for a while, and would require endless fabrication and tweaking, and MONEY.

The 240, IMO, cannot hold a candle to the SVX as far as integrity, history, design, class, fit and finish, etc. The list goes on and on.

The 240 is a basic weekend ricer, racer... i mean. Turbo it and go to the strip or go drifting,

but you wont be able to play in the snow like we can.

Bottom line, if you are looking for inexpensive and plug and play mods, the 240 is your modders paradise.

If you are looking for a real car, stick with the SVX, get a 5 speed in it, and enjoy yourself.

As one who owns both a '92 SVX, & a '93 240 SX base model, I'll interject this. They're different animals. The SVX is a tourer. The SX has been an indestructible playtoy at over 250K. There's nothing wrong with the fit & finish of either car.

Ron.
