Disocolored ps fluid despite multiple changes

After replacing my ps pump a couple of months ago, I've now drained and refilled my ps resevior twice, yet the fluid keeps ending up looking brown and mucky. As if it's got water and dirt in it. What could be causing this? There have been no symptoms, but I'm sure it can't be good for the lines or the pump itself over the long run. I'll try and take a picture of the discolored fluid this weekend.

Do you have any leaks in the system?

I know at least one member changed his steering cooler as it was practically rusted through.

Hi Earthworm. As far as I can tell, there are no leaks as I'm not losing fluid, nor do I smell fluid burning anywhere.

Do you think the steering cooler might not be functioning and that's why the fluid is turning dark? I wasn't aware there even was one. Do you know where it's located?

Thanks.

The fluid could have been that bad !! I would change it again and see if it gets better. Have you seen the thread about how to do a PS fluid (transmission fluid) flush? That may be what it needs. Let us know what happens.

The cooler is located between the radiator and the A/C condenser. It's just a metal loop.

I would take a fluid sample, replace the fluid again, drive for a bit, take another sample and compare to the first to check for improvement.

Unfortunately, I don't have a proper jack so bleeding the system won't be an option. However, the fluid seems to be getting better with each change. I just replaced it again and will see how it holds up. Thaks for the help.
