So I went to the aquarium today.
For those who like personal defense: Leave these items in your car. I had to go back to my car because I was 'locked and loaded' and they do not allow guns, knives, fishing poles, and pointy objects in their facility. Metal detectors check before you go in. The Beluga Whales and Whale Sharks were cool. Sea otters, sea lions, penguins were neat too. They lacked some fishes that the TN aquarium has but made by having stuff TN didn't have. I expected it be a little bigger, but it didn't feel like it. It definitely has more tank space for fishes though. I guess the only way I can get the hookup is to donate money so that I can go into the back rooms and such. |

it was interesting to see the small fishes crowding around the whaleshark eating the parasites off the whalesharks and groupers. what's also interesting was the 4-5 parasite eating fishes (very small) leading the whalesharks around the big tank. they would swim ahead almost like a tugboat pulling the whaleshark behind it with invisible chains. strange. sometimes the whaleshark would open it's mouth for extended periods of time but not engage vaccum suction to pull those itty bitty fishes in. weird. apparently they feed 16.5lbs of nutrients/vitamin laced krill to the whales 2 times a day. i'm going to have to donate some cash to get the 'behind the scenes' tour. apparently if you volunteer 'x' amount of time within a year, you can gear up and dive in to help them manage the fishes/whalesharks/beluga whales. might have to look into that. |
