After breaking in my Blizzaks I can say I have never had better control of a vehicle in snow.
Keep them off ice and out of water. Don't brake too hard on anything dry. Face it they are useless for anything but snow. I don't see any reason to favor them over any other tire unless you live in the himalayas. edit: The ones you posted in those links are nothing like mine. Those look more roadworthy.

As far as the Blizzaks go I have used them in the past and they work well. I saw that Toyo has a studless tire that has crushed walnut shells impregnated in the rubber compound. As far as studded tires go I think they aren't safe unless used on ice or packed glazed snow. On dry pavement they tend to provide less traction and are prone to wheel spin or skidding.
