I agree, you are correct, it should not make a difference unless there is a resistive ground from the dropping resistor to the chassis. This would come off one of the wires. I questioned that before I cut the wire....but logically if the dropping resistor is isolated from a body ground, it could not make a difference. I am sure the guy's a small car would have known this and gave the appropriate instruction, pretty easy to check, check the ohms from both dropping resistor terminals. If there are no ohm's reading, then it does not matter. Hmmm. There is a serious thunderstorm out right now...maybe later.
