Anyone in the DC/Baltimore/VA area who is willing to take on this work or can recommend someone?
The compressor and condenser do not have to be replaced if you have lost Freon. If there is a hole or something is badly broken then that is another story. 1994 should be a R134A. I would go to Napa and buy an o-ring kit and a new dryer, cost between 33 and 50 dollars. You can install them with minor tools. Subaru charges over $300.00 just for the dryer.

Then have the system vacummed and recharged. You will save a few hundred too.

Getting onboard a little late on this one beeen on vacation. I brought my SVX to one of thoes clincs ( have a free hot dog test drive a few cars while they give your car a saftey check. ) I came back to find a work est sheet for $1,000 worth of work that needed to be done. Biggest was replace all the heat shields like $500 or $600 That was about 6 years ago. Was not worth the 3 hours I spent there. I thanked them for the free carwash and the hot dog drove away and never looked back. Never had any of the repairs done they said were so necessary.
