Something's wrong with my car and I don't have a clue

This is really wierd but every once in a while when i open the door (driver or passenger) the car will start bugging out. It doesn't happen all the time and is intermittent and I can't just MAKE it do it.

But when it does "do it" the horn randomly honks (short and long chirps in total random order and length), the parking lights flash (again in random length), and the automatic seat belts move a little bit from starting to go back, and then front again....it's so weird. Once I put the key in the ignition and turn it on all the problems go away.

Could it be the factory alarm? Where is it so I can unplug the bastard?

Thanks.

Yep, that's the factory alarm. There's a button on the dash, just to the left of the steering wheel, labeled "SECURITY." Press that button and make sure it isn't flashing. That should take care of your problem.

Do you not have a remote Key fob. If not, you can order one from subaruparts.com for around fifty bucks, including shipping.

When the security system is on, and you unlock the door with the key, you get a seven (I think) second countdown before the alarm goes off. If you start the car before the seven seconds, the horn won't sound. Of course, if you turn the system off, via the security button, you won't have a problem.

Yes that is definitely it. I waited seven seconds and heard the wierdness.

Okay, so I already hacked up the security button and LED for my aftermarket alarm LED and Valet switch .....yes I can always put it back but I'd rather pull out the alarm module completely.

Where is the factory security brain located?

Thanks!

Holy crap! It's actually got a shock sensor? Dam that's some alarm subaru put in there. I'll see if I can tackle it tomorrow because it's getting dark already here.

inline: yeah you can definitely have it .....it's useless to me.....also got the original "Subaru SVX" keyless entry thing that still works .....I can sell that with the module. Make me an offer.

If inline doesn't want the remote, let me know.

The shock sensor can be set for very high sensitivity, but it ain't recommended. Even at low sensitivity, the "warn away" sounds when the windshield pops on a very cold or a very hot day.

I can give you $50 for the module.

You could sell the key fob to Randy. I have one already.

Let me know if that works.

Thanks, Chris. I actually have six remotes. Only two of them work. I have two cars, so, it never hurts to have a spare.

The one I use is the two-button remote (an earlier model). I can unlock both SVXes with one remote. My other 2-Button remote doesn't work. I wish it did.

Anyway, that would be great. rmjjenson, e-mail me at trspit80@aol.com and let me know what you want for the remote.
