Good question Earl.

You would need a very big bath to see which direction the SVX swirls, would you not?

Paul in New Zealand has the same colour scheme, though I'm not sure which model he has. Probably 4WS I would say. Here is a photo of Paul's:

I have yet to get a good pic of mine, but soon.

Where is that drooling smiley? I need one.

hello all, im raul. first time svx owner here, but ive been visiting these forums on a regular basis for the last year or so. my brother bought a 94 lsi last year, so i started frequenting the site for performance tips. anyhow, long story short, hes got oil on a good portion of the front of the motor (or is it power steering fluid?), and the car clicks badly when you turn left or right (half shafts?) and, heres the nice part. transmission went out on his way home, and didnt have money to get it towed, so he left it on the side of the road waiting for money for a tow truck. car got towed and impounded 3 days later, and he said i could either let it sit, which he was going to do, or give him 300 dollars to get it out of impound and give him my 92 jetta with a bad starter, and bad wiring that drains the battery after about a day of sitting, and kills alternators, a car ive only put maybe 75 miles since i bought it a year ago. so i said hell yes, pay for the towing to my house, and ill give you 300 dollars, and my broke down jetta. i paid 350 for the jetta, and spent 75 on parts. so total, i spent 725 for the car. it has 100728 miles, and had 86k when he got it, rarely laying into the gas, as it had a check engine light. o2 sensor he said. anyhow, car is mine, and i have some plans as of now for the future, but for now, im going to fix the axles, find that oil leak, and do a 5spd swap, and get rid of that massive vacuum leak/hot air intake we put in there, and try to make a custom hood-scoop fed top sitting ram air intake. looks pretty impossible as of now. im going to get ahold of tom soon for 5/6spd swap and kit info. car has rebuilt title, but the body is in imaculate condition, minus a dent on the quater above the bumper, and a horrible re-spray job that i dont think was primered. anyhow, thats me and my story. wish me luck!

oh, side note, after my brother went out to do some donuts int he snow last winter, his rear tires stopped spinning. any ideas?

Hi, I'm a lurker here and finally decided to post.

I bought a '92 LS, claret, 173000 miles, in June for $500 -- third owner. It was the least expensive running car that I could find for my son to drive. Yes, probably a mistake to buy one of these, but for the first couple of months we didn't do a thing to it.

After a few months the car developed a coolant leak/overheating problem. I discovered this site and started looking around. Eventually, a crack on the top of the radiator became obvious. I replaced it, and the thermostat and hoses, which was pretty easy. I thought about the water pump, as well, while I had it out, but I had never seen any leaking in that area.

A few weeks went by, and what do you think happened? The coolant was leaking again. This time it was near the water pump. I've replaced a few water pumps on Jeep Grand Cherokees, but I discovered here that the water pump runs off the timing belt and requires a little more work to get to.

Yesterday, I dug in and did the job. The timing belt appeared to have been replaced in the recent past, as had any seals in there, so that was cool. I spent most of the day on it, but I got it all back together. No more leaks or overheating.

I spent some time searching for any info I needed here, and I learned what I needed to know to beyond my Jeep mechanical knowledge. So, thanks for the site.

Glad you finally decided to join us "officially".

Posts like this make me wonder just how many people "lurk" here just to gather information. I would be willing to bet it's quite a few.

BTW, sounds like you have the mechanical skills needed to be an SVX owner. Welcome.

Hello Bevan, you are very welcome.

Thank you for the lovely story. A heck of a lot of talking and joking goes on here, but in between the posting fun it is our mission in life to help SVX owners.

You'll fit right in.

Joe

Checking in

I own one of the SVXes seen cruisin NH. I say one as I have seen another a couple months ago, but email bounced when I tried to contact the owner.

85k and driving daily. No tranny problems yet but have already gone through bearings and sounds like I am going to have to do it again.

Incidentally, I'm more of a stalker than a lurker.

Looking for recommendations for aftermarket wheels, as the size and 55mm offset and limited number of vehicles made provides few choices. Originally came looking for tire recommendations for both summer and winter. Might be a nice forum section. Tires to buy and those to avoid. Might even add in shops to visit, as it appears my local subie dealer has little to no expertise for the SVX and her "issues".

Failing all else will put on Dunlop SP Wintersport M3s for the winter.

you can use all wheels made for 97-01 dodge avenger. the best sites are discounttiredirect.com edgeracing.com tirerack.com and tires-easy.com. the best ice and snow tire are the QR Blizzaks, they do stop on ice without studs. the best summer tire is the TOYO PROXES T1R 245/55WR16. I myself prefer softer all season tires with AWD. at dis****tirediect i found $87 Falken Ziex 255/50WR16 and $90 Enkeis. if cost is no object, 245/45ZR18 is ideal size.

Did you leave out an "o" somewhere, by any chance??

As regards buying wheels, stock wheels for a Mazda RX7 or RX8 have the same PCD and offset, and will work well because they are light and strong.

Also Lexus wheels are very similar in dimensions and will work.

Dayle also sells late model Mustang wheels as a good substitute.

If you do a search on tires or wheels, you will bring up lots of threads because that is discussed quite frequently. Good luck on your quest.

I'm new to the forum so I thought I would just say hello. Chris introduced me to this forum and told me to check it out even though I don't have an SVX, but I do love Subarus; I have two of them. I drive a FSXT and she drives the Impreza OBS. I mostly hang out at subaruforester.org, but I'm always looking to learn more about Subarus, especially from mature forum members, which this forum seems to have.

Good Morning wakeabyss, you are very welcome to the Network!

Hey if Chris introduced you, then you are undoubtedly one of us, a petrolhead.

As regards mature forum members, we have a lot of people on here that have a long-time relationship with the car and the boards. I dunno so much about mature

We are all eeejits concerning the SVX so mature might not be the exact or correct adjective that applies.

Welcome.

Joe

My 92 ebony lsi's transmission just bit the dust at 155k. Luckily the guy who sold it to me 4 years ago had a 95 polo green L awd. So I'm back in business, but I have to change a rear wheel bearing. Last changed one over 2 years ago. Wanted to brush up on the instructions, but can't find any posts that direct me to the directions for changing. Any ideas or directions?
I'll keep the '92 for parts for now so I'm not ready to sell any parts yet. Maybe later.

New guy here

Just checking in to say hi, this is my first post.
I've been a Subaru fan for the past two years, when I got my first Outback Sport. It was recently wrecked, and now being a huge fan and advocate for the AWD system, I began limiting my search for a new car to only those with AWD, not necessarily Subaru. That's when I discovered SVX a little over 3 weeks ago... I can't believe I never knew about this wonderful car. When I began asking questions about it a fellow NASIOC dweller pointed me in this direction. So, I've lurking around and checking out whats for sale, and educating myself on this car using the wealth of information you guys and gals have laid out for me here. I'm based in New York City, but I got my Outback in Hew Hampshire and drove it home; so you get an idea of how far I'm willing to go when I find something I want.

So anyway, I'll be around. Once I've worn out the search button, I will be popping up with more questions.
