AutoTchr & anybody wanting to know about gasoline

Hey Teach - Some time back we exchanged some views on gasoline and additives on a thread you started.

Maybe you could get one of your students to read the info at the site I'm listing below and give us a report.

I read some of it before giving up Working 40 hours/week and pursuing a degree on the side makes almost every brain cell I have feel exhausted.

Maybe some rainy day I'll go back to read all four parts. http://www.faqs.org/faqs/autos/gasoline-faq/part1/

Question

OK, Lee, I've read this & committed most to memory. However, I don't see the answer to a question I've pondered for years. If we took all the oil we've extracted from the earth since we began doing so, & filled a great big hole with it, how deep & wide would the hole be?
Please, no metric answers, or cubic barrels. I want good ole' miles & yards or feet. Anyone?

Ron.

Ron,

I'm too tired to think (like I was ever really good at it), but I seem to remember the world's current annual consumption would fill a tank 3.5 miles in diameter and 1/2 mile high Does that help?

Let's see - so if we're increasing consumption due to increasing population & SUV sales in China; but prior years were exponentially less due to fewer people & more VW beetles on the road, but WWII caused a spike....hmmm. I'd say we could fill Lake Superior with all the dino poop we've extracted. Point being? Extinguish your cigarette before approaching the state of Michigan, or you may launch planet Earth into an orbit just south of Jupiter. Too cold for the Diehard to start the SVX. Let's be careful out there!

Ron.

Ron -

I think it would be a very very very large hole!!! Using metric or standard measurements.
