window glass replacement help?
I bought a replacement moveable door glass that is just the glass. I need to take the brackets off the old one that holds it to the regulator and put it on the new one.
My question how hard is it, how do the brackets come off the window itself pic of the 2 brackets http://www.ebay.com/itm/92-93-94-95-...bGv&vxp=mtrher Last edited by kjoyes; 06-06-2016 at 10:16 PM. |

Re: window glass replacement help?
Not too bad a job...remove the door panel and plastic vapor shield so you can access the 2 fasteners that hold the glass...move window up/down to convenient position. Remove the top 2 window "snuggers" with the 2 10mm bolts each and soft fabric swippers. Remove the 2 bolts holding glass and remove with a bit of wiggle so it exits on outside of upper fixed glass. Drop in your replacement...you will need to insert with a bit of pressure the attachment glass side into the receiver slot where the 2 bolts attach to it.
"I need to take the brackets off the old one that holds it to the regulator and put it on the new one." So the eBay picture with the metal fitting to the glass is not the one you have..you have only the glass? And the slider at the front of the glass is there or not? If you have only the glass, that makes things more problematic...they use large pressed rivet types. Theoretically, if you need to attach the bracket, you could drill off the rivets and use machine screws/nuts with nylon washers to reattach but getting a short screw/bolt with a wide enough diameter to fit the holes so the glass doesn't move around will take some searching. We have a Specialty bolt retail store here where I take pieces with weird needs and they always come up with a solution. Hope this helps a bit..good luck. |

Re: window glass replacement help?
I would also consider using a clear 2 part epoxy if you wanted to avoid looking for the rather special hardware you'd need, possibly available as OEM Subie stuff but doubt it. Make sure it's glass to metal friendly and water resistant..see link.
There are also UV activated glues on eBay which come with glue and UV source for as little as $15. Not sure the UV light would be able to "penetrate" the glue in the metal frame recesses though. A Web Search will show many glass-to-metal adhesive sites and the more I think about it, that would be the way I'd go. http://www.alcolin.com/diy-products/...tickyquestions |
