Timken wheel bearing - pre greased

Ok, just got off the phone with Bill from the Timken automotive section and he confirmed that the grease that comes with the Timken bearings are indeed wheel bearing grease. So, take them out of the box and install them.

Again, this is ONLY for the Timken brand bearings, I don't know about the OEM or other brands. I know lots of thread on this topic that are full of information, conjectures, etc but I wanted to post up this thread.

Fantastic! Thanks for posting this.

I did the find a distributor thing and there's a location that is basically right around the corner from me. I'll have to contact them to see about pricing on Monday.

I ordered the rear bearing and seal from Rockauto.com very reasonable priced, then I had NV Performance put it in they charged about $200 for the labor I was happy to have them do it since it needs a press.

NV Performance is just off Beach Blvd, 3115 Leon Rd

I also wanted to let you know about something else but I forgot what it is. I am going to message you my phone number, I plan on going to the dragon meet in a couple weeks

Re: Timken wheel bearing - pre greased

A word of caution about the Timken seals, the ones listed in a typical online store like Rockauto, didn't fit the front. I ordered them, then returned them! Same thing happened at my local NAPA store, they're just too small. This is kind of weird but I had to go with Centrix brand of seals as suggested by other members so double check the front seal issue. I think the rear seals are more common size so maybe that's not an issue, I haven't ordered the rear bearings/seals yet but about to shortly!

Re: Timken wheel bearing - pre greased

Check out the attached jpg of my Rockauto order. See how they state Timken 710473 Fits "front outer" or Rear inner. 710464 - fits rear outer and front inner. Umm, no way would they be interchangeable. The front seals are MUCH larger than the rear so I returned them.

But, Timken site link above should have the correct seal p/ns and I'd verify with a Timken tech on the phone before ordering them.
